Hi,
I received an email from eBay informing me that an electric scooter I’ve purchased has been recalled due to significant fire risk, it included a link to gov.uk showing the official recall. I have contacted the seller as advised in the initial email, who has replied saying that eBay has got it wrong, I’ve got a scooter that is completely safe and they’re appealing it. I’m not sure what action to take next or how to get eBay to step in. The item no longer shows in my purchase list as it now shows as ‘no longer listed’ and/or ‘removed for policy violation’. Any ideas on what I should do?

Ebay won't get involved.
They just pass on info about purchase.
You need to sort with seller, but as they say no issue, may be difficult.
Try contacting citizens advice.

At least on eBay buyer has had their house burned down due to a fire caused by an e-bike or scooter, so you need to take this warning very seriously.
We know from experience that eBay sellers often try to walk away from after-sales problems. I'm not suggesting that this is what your seller is doing, but I've never heard of sellers being able to "appeal" recalls and in your position I wouldn't just leave it in their hands.
The gov.uk site presumably gives the relevant model and serial numbers, and the manufacturer's name. I suggest that you search for any other information online, and contact the manufacturer direct for advice.
If in difficulty, it's possible that Trading Standards or Citizens Advice may be able to help.

it’s just not worth the risk. I was going to give it some time to see what
they come back with and seek other advice but I’ve never had anything need
to be recalled like this and I’m not going to take any chances.

To confirm.
You can't return via ebay unless item received in last 30 days.
