Push bike sold as used but its not rideable

Hi everyone

As title suggests, I bought a bike on Ebay.

It was listed as "Used" which according to Ebay means "The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended."

Sellers advert said the bike was in good condition and well maintained so I arranged a courier to collect.

After receiving the bike it was obvious that it had not been ridden or serviced for a number of years and there are some components that need replacing before it can be ridden so it is far from fully operational.

Ive contacted the seller to say I have had to purchase  over £100 worth of replacement parts and i think it is fair to ask him to pay these costs but a week later I still have a bike that I can't ride and the seller is ignoring me. Ive only asked for the cost of the parts to be refunded, Ive even said that I would cover the labour as I will do some of it myself.

What should I do next, is it too early to involve EBay?

I dont want to return the bike but I feel like I have been mislead, is this why I pay buyer protection?

Thanks

You will be unable to involve eBay as you arranged your own courier. This renders the transaction ineligible for eBay's buyer protection.

How did you pay? I'm not sure what account PayPal or your credit or debit card issuer would take of the fact that you sent a courier. It's possible that, unlike eBay, this may not affect your eligibility to claim.

Ok thanks red_magpie.

I guess I'll just put this down to experience.
