Problems with a seller

I had a notification from eBay that some telescopic ladders we purchased were found to be unsafe to stop using them. On contacting seller they said nothing wrong with them and now not answering my messages.

If 30 days have passed the item's last estimated date for delivery then nothing can be enforced through eBay for any refund.

 

It's entirely between you and the seller now.

 

If purchased from a UK registered business who are now not upholding any guarantee for the item,  you can try Citizens Advice if you wish to proceed here.

 

Or, contact the manufacturer see what they say, about the use of this item.

eBay passes on safety recall notices to buyers, but unless it's still within the time limit for their own 30 day money back guarantee any action required by the notice is the responsibility of the seller.

 

Unfortunately, we know from the number of questions about this that many eBay sellers don't want to know. This shouldn't be surprising. eBay even warns warn buyers in the user agreement that "they do not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised, or the truth or accuracy of descriptions".

 

Choosing to buy on eBay means accepting the risks involved in buying from unknown sellers, one of which is that many take no responsibility for what they sell or provide any after-sales service.

 

If you visit the manufacturer's web site it should give details of the safety recall, and the action required. However, unless they are prepared to meet the cost you may have to pay for this yourself - or scrap the item and write it down to experience. Buying on eBay is not like the shops.

 

If the seller is a UK registered business seller you can also contact trading standards or advice.
