Hi,
Does anyone know why my Phone number was given to a seller ?
The item I have purchased is an emailed activation code. But the seller sent me a text message. (not the code)
Surely this is a data protection breach.

Once a transaction has been completed your phone and an encoded email address for all of us is available in the order details.
Technically the seller did not and or should not have texted you, but there are instances particularly on overseas items where it is pertinent to add the phone number of the buyer, for customs purposes etc.
As @plpmr points out you and your seller are potentially on thin ice if the digital item you have purchased was not listed correctly.

unless its a classified ad digitally delivered items cannot be sold on eBay - delivered by Email or text.
Members can obtain contact details once in a transaction.
