Laptop not working after 34 days!

I don't know what to do next, I bought an 'as new' laptop for a present for my son that was delivered on the 26th March.  It was described as opened but not used, however in the description says barely used, excellent condition.  As it was from Ebay, I opened it, checked the condition, turned it on - set up screen came up, all good I thought so I packed it back away again.  Come to give it to my son on the 30th April, it worked for half an hour then turned itself off and is now a brick! It apparently has no OS and no SSD/Hard drive?  I can't look into the laptop and see if the ssd has just disconnected as one of the screws on the back has been stripped (not what i'd expect from a 'new' machine) I messaged the seller explaining and got no answer so despite being outside the 30 days and the fact the seller doesn't accept returns I initiated a return. What can I expect to happen as the seller has no intention of accepting the return?  I feel i've been conned, there is no way he couldn't have known there was a problem, it's obvious that someone has tampered with the back of the laptop or there wouldn't be a 'stripped' screw there, so mad I didnt just give it to my son when i got it, then it would have been inside the 30 days to return through ebay 😞

Try your payment provider.

Most banks and credit cards give you 120 days from receipt to start a chargeback.

You have bought an item online which is not fit for purpose so try your bank for a refund.

Paypal only allow 30 days to start a claim.  If you paid that way, you might have to look at how you fund your Paypal to see if they can help.

Thanks, never had to do that before, I'll try that if ebay won't get involved.

They won't get involved as it is more than 30 days since you received your item.
