Item declared not received found on sale on Ebay

There is a new scam on ebay that affects websites that sell items. In fact this used to be very common in the US last year with Amazon packages. We found that customers buy items from our own website then they say the item has never been received and they list it on ebay straight away.

The way we found out, is that as we are the exclusive manufacturer of these products and sometimes we only sell one item to the UK. Then if that single item is declared not received and found on ebay we know that this is fraud. Usually what we found out is that the seller lives near by the person who initially bought the item.

Anyone else has experienced the same thing?

If you use trackable postage that couldn't happen.

I doubt whether this scam could become "very common" in the UK, where Amazon deiveries are tracked.

Amazon might accept occasional claims that a tracking record was incorrect, but they're not going to keep on refunding buyers who make serial claims.

But the scammers do not buy just from Amazon, they choosing independent websites so this way they can carry on until they run out of retailers to scam! And then they start using their other friends so the person who sells is the same but the ones buying are different. Very well organised. And because they do not go via their bank they can do this indefinitely.

But as already said, if tracking shows delivered then no claim of not received can win.

All online purchases I make always have tracking, I doubt that many companies just trust to luck that buyers will not make false claims.

It is up to sellers to protect themselves, this is a scam that can so easily be avoided.

Tracking does not help. We have the POD with the photo of the parcel delivered outside the door. The courier says that this is a Police matter and they do not want to get involved. Even if we send these items recorded, usually these fraudsters live in block of flats and ask the courier to give it to someone on ground floor. Then the POD does not show themselves so they start shouting I want my money back...
