I ordered and paid for a piano book on 28th March. It was dispatched the same day and an estimated delivery of 31st March as it was 48 hour tracked. It hadn't arrived by the 2nd April and contacted the seller who said if it wasn't with me by today to contact them again. I did and now they are saying I have to wait till the 10th of April before they will do anything, but I'm actually away on holiday next week, so won't know if it's here or not. Is it ok for them to leave me waiting 9 working days before assumming it's lost?

No, do not wait any longer if the last estimated date for delivery was the 31st you've waited long enough, listen no more to the seller and definitely do not wait until the 10th, just proceed this way:

Well I did that, but when I went in to item not recieved it asked if I still wanted the item or did I want a refund. I asked for a refund, but ebay then said they would inform the seller and that's when the seller came back with wait till the 10th.

How odd, wait 48 hours and see if the option to escalate to eBay, ask them to step in appears.
I know you have selected a refund , always do so, because if a replacement is sent and it's faulty you would not be covered.

And this was the sellers response although they then amended it, apologised and said they meant the 10th
