HMRC taxation 2025

Hi all - looking to get some clarity here.

i sell personal items on eBay - things that i own that no longer fit or i no longer use. Am I right in thinking that as these are personal possessions the £1700 limit on selling doesn’t apply, and instead it falls under the capital gains £6k per annum bracket instead? From reading I think so but want to make sure im doing the right thing etc.

thanks

As they are personal possessions there should be no tax due (CGT apart, but that's highly unlikely).

There is no 'limit on selling' there are thresholds above which your sales will be reported to HMRC, either 30 sales, or approx £1,700.

Thanks. I have definitely sold over 30 items this year and the value is about £2k so it sounds like eBay will send them my info but given they are items I own (and most of them for many years) it shouldn’t have any impact.
