Feedback numbers decreasing by the day

I'm a buyer and have 100% positive feedback, and a few days ago I had 498 positives but today I only have 477 positive feedbacks. I would like to know what is happening here. I always leave my seller's positive feedback and have never left a negative for anyone. Can sellers change their mind and remove a positive feedback altogether or could this be some problem with eBay. It's never happened before but it is quite demoralising to see my numbers going down almost daily. Does anyone know what could be happening here?

I thought this would be an easy question to answer, but in your case it's quite complicated. There seem to be two factors involved.

The first is that when calculating the percentage of positives the number considered is feedbacks received during the last 12 months. As you have just completed your first year of membership, this will be your first recalculation. In future, the number increase or reduce monthly according to whether the revised 12 month total of feedbacks is higher or lower than the previous period.

The bigger puzzle was why your total of all feedbacks received since joining is lower than the total for the last 12 months. I think the answer here must be that you often buy multiple items form the same seller, or sellers. When multiple feedbacks are given to the same seller at more or less the same time (I forget the exact period) eBay only scores them as one feedback.

I'm still unsure why this appears to apply to the total since joining, but not the total for the last 12 months. Either that's just the way it's done, or I've missed something that someone else will see!

Re: Feedback numbers decreasing by the day

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to reply with such helpful information. I understand everything that you have written. I do buy multiple items from some seller. You have understood perfectly and replied perfectly. I never knew that it works like that. Does this apply to buyer's too? I notice some of the business sellers have thousands. Is all feedback just limited to a year?  I don't think that eBay should do it like this. Why not just keep a continued rolling figure? Many Thanks again for your very helpful response.
