Ebay instant payment

Looked at item. Made offer. Next moment and Ebay message telling me "we automatically charged you "card" ending in ------ for this purchase. WHY. No communication from or with the seller saying yes or no. Do not like this and how can I stop it.

Ebay instant payment

Seller must have set to accept offer automatically with immediate payment required. You must already have agreed to this method of making immediate payment.

Alternative would be that offer would have been declined.

Ebay instant payment

Hi, thanks for that information but I was not aware of having done that. Did I miss this or do I specifically have to look out for it as I want to stop it. Thanks

To be fair,  many sellers do not know they've been opted into this scheme,  it wasn't a choice.

However,  sellers can opt out,  so what you can do,  before making / accepting any future offers,  is to ask the seller are they opted into this immediate payment scheme, would they kindly opt out,  so you can select a different method of payment at eBay checkout.

The do not have to agree ,  of course.

You probably missed it. It will have been on one of the user agreement updates that most people never read.

By making an offer you have agreed to buy the item if your offer is accepted. Sellers were given the option to require instant payment - just as you would if you bought something on any web site.

This was introduced because so many buyers were having second thoughts and not paying - ruining the seller's listing and leaving them with selling selling fees to claim back from eBay.

You can't opt out, but you could decline to provide payment details and not bid. I don't know what happens if you have a card registered as a seller - does eBay take it from this? That would be a bit cheeky, as sellers may wish to keep an account specifically for sales.
