I put a few listing's on ebay last year and was told ebay would take a fee once items had sold

None of them sold and I had an outstanding balance of over 500 but concerned this was some sort of scam removed listing's and thought nothing of it as I was certain ebay s fees was only if I sold then I get a letter this hear for even more money again assumed this was a scam of some sort binned letter to read on forums this is real and ebay won't stop but surely they can't take money for something i didn't sell

Re: Debt collection

There are some chargeable upgrades on listings that are payable even if your item doesn't sell.

If you added any chargeable upgrades, such as a Reserve, to any of your listings then you will be charged for using this feature. It costs 4% of your reserve price, and if your auction was set to automatically relist if not sold then it would be charged each time it relisted.

If you promoted any of your listings this would also have been chargeable.

If you added a subtitle this costs £2 and is also charged each relist.

If you listed a vehicle this costs £14.99 per listing.

All fees are set out here:

It's difficult to advise you with so little information.

Are you perhaps asking this question using a different account to the one concerned? If so, you can't expect us to advise you without seeing at least your feedback as a seller.

The account on which you're asking this question only records 3 feedbacks as a seller since you opened the account in 2017. It's hard to see how you could have accumulated a £500 credit or debit balance (which??) from these.

As has been said, if you didn't complete any other sales your fees could only come from fees for optional listing features on listings that you subsequently withdrew. It seems unlikely that  "a few" (how many??) listings would accumulate sufficient unpaid fees for eBay to place this in the hands of debt collectors.

In short, you need to establish exactly - or even roughly - what fees may still be outstanding. If this corresponds with the amount claimed, pay them. If not, write to or email the debt collectors, state that the debt is unrecognised and ask them to take this up with eBay. It's possible that eBay has made a mistake and has confused your username with another user. It wouldn't be the first time.
