Dangerous faulty item

so I bought an electric clothes  aired in late October. Yesterday when I went to remove the clothes I had realised that the thing had broken exposing wires. I was horrified I looked at the other side and I could see that that side was also going to go. I got in touch with the seller but they were not interested. They weren’t interested in the fact that it’s faulty that it could’ve caused a serious fire And all he said was well you put too many clothes on it. In actuality I did not, and even if I did that should not happen. There isn’t a warranty and now the refund returns are not being accepted. I cannot actually get in touch with eBay I just go around in circles so I was wondering if you knew what my rights were I mean I know what my rights are but this has literally spun me out. This man is selling defective stuff that’s electrical and isn’t even interested that the item could actually initiate a fire. Help

Your rights are very simple.

It's far too late now to do anything through eBay; their own money back guarantee only lasts for 30 days. You can contact your payment provider e.g. credit or debit card issuer to ask whether they can help.

If it was bought from a UK registered business seller you may have some statutory consumer rights, although these are liable to be academic for items sold by distant, unhelpful eBay sellers. You can also report this dangerous item to trading standards. (If it was bought from a seller in China, UK safety standards do not apply there.)

As well as rights, you have responsibilities which include reading the user agreement. In it, eBay even warned you that they do not guarantee that items sold here will be safe or legal. Never think of eBay as being like the shops.  eBay is a jungle,

Thank you that is so helpful. My main concern is that it will happen to somebody else with extreme consequences. I will report to Trading Standards just for peace of mind but I think I’ll just chalk this up to a bad experience.. Thank you again for all your wonderful help and advice
