I am wanting to sell some large / heavy items that can't be posted so will be selling as Collection Only.
In the past I've only ever done cash on collection but understand that can't be done anymore.
What are the risks now if a buyer who has collected an item then says something is wrong? Can they claim their money back?
It's something I would risk for £5 but not £50.

You are responsible for arranging the return, the buyer would get their refund regardless if eBay agreed with them in their claim

Ebay no longer accept cash on collection in person items,so now buyer pay using the ebay checkout and that affords them buyer protection.
The buyer gets a 6 digit code emailed to them when they pay,and they need to bring that code with them when they collect and pass it onto you to either scan or manually enter it,which then shows ebay the item was collected and paid for.

If the buyer gets the item home then decides there is something wrong with it they are covered by the eBay moneyback guarantee and you would be responsible for return and refund

So if they don't return it they don't get their money back?
I'm happy to accept a return and refund but i dont want a scammer fleecing me.

If the buyer opens a case for a return and you don't respond, then ebay can refund courtesy of your account and not ask the buyer to return the item,so you would need to respond to a request within 3 business days of it being opened.
