Cannot list a classified ad for Business and Industrial

I am trying to list an industrial machine using a classified ad but am not being offered the option when creating a listing. Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Some sub categories aren't supported by Classified Ad format.

What kind of item are you listing?

I cannot find any listed for sale on eBay.  Or would it be listed under some other title,  than Industrial Flame Testing Machine ?

Perhaps this is a restricted item ?

You misunderstand.
I am TRYING to list an industrial machine (which is not a restricted item) in the correct section (Business and Industrial) but am not being offered the option to list as a classified - despite eBay telling me that classified ads are allowed in the Business and Industrial classification.

I did not misunderstand.

I was trying to find a similar item to the one you wish to sell to see the category the seller had selected and if any were listed in a Classified format,  to help you  select the same.

I was explaining I couldn't find any ,  so Perhaps this is a restricted item?

Hi,

There’s no reason the machine would be restricted.
It’s a specialist testing rig used by manufacturers of flame retardant fabrics to prove that their products meet specific parameters.

It’s worth around £5K so auction fees would be prohibitive.

My wife had been trying to list the item for some time but couldn’t get the “classified” option on the drop down menu.
If she made no other changes but chose “cars” as the category the option appeared.

I tried myself, setting up a draft listing with almost no info but choosing “Business and Industrial” and, again, could not access the “classified” option, only “Auction” or “Buy it Now”.

Asking for help from eBay only finds the information that classified listings are available for items in "Business and Industrial” - which in practice seems not to be the case.

I agree it's most odd an clearly an industrial machine. 

I may be wrong but wonder if the little bots who check this are not happy with the description having the word ' flame' in title and kicking it out?  Could you try and list it under another descriptive title?   See if that allows you to proceed.

If not,  contact eBay Customer Services ask why you are not being allowed to list this item.  I do strongly recommend only contacting them very first thing in the morning when the lines first open at 8 a.m. as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

As said, I recommend contacting CS very first thing in the morning, when the lines first open,  as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

My abbreviated draft listing didn’t have the word “flame” anywhere - just the word “tester”.
I don’t think my wife’s full attempted listing will have either.
The testing industry knows the name of the machine and would search for it without needing the word “flame”.
It would be like listing “Ford Transit” without needing to add the word “van”!

I know my wife had a conversation with someone from eBay who couldn’t help.

We’ll try the “early option” you suggest.

I assume you have registered as a seller on ebay to allow you to list items Registering as a seller | eBay

Yes.

My wife tried to list it before I had a go.
She’s been selling on eBay for about 20 years.

If she pretends it’s a car she gets the “classified ad” option.
If she switches to Business and Industrial with no other changes - the option disappears.
