Hi,
I've recently discovered that selling or buying silver jewelry above a certain weight needs to be hallmarked under the UK law, I've purchased quite a few pieces from on eBay from multiple sellers and the only thing they ever had was a stamp 925
We're talking about 50-200g pieces in the past 4 years costing me more multiple thousands.
Are the sellers breaking the law by selling jewelry with this kind of weight but no actual hallmark ? They are claiming it has hallmark but it only has a stamp
What is the ideal action to take in such a scenario ? I would hate to find out my pieces aren't real silver

925 is not a hallmark but it does denote continental silver so the items are silver. Hallmarked English silver is a slightly higher grade.

Items are covered by the Money Back Guarantee for up to 30 days.
Outside of that, if you have an issue with something you have bought, it is between you and the seller.
If you have concerns about a particular piece, get it checked by a jeweller.
You can claim through your payment source for up to 120 days and longer than that if you paid by credit card and the item was over £100.

I don't have an issue with anything and I'm pretty sure it's silver, however I'm just asking if it's legal to sell jewelry above a certain weight and value without a hallmark.
From what I'm reading they are breaking the law by lying they are hallmarked and sell them without when all they have is a stamp 925
This seems to be extremely common on eBay

Anyone could a 925 stamp on a piece, I have it myself. All it means is "trust me bro"
