Hi all, hoping someone can give me some advice please, I sold an item in auction, small child's toy under £10, postage paid for the correct price of £3.75 after parcel was weighed (it was much less than 45x35x16cms) buyer claimed not to receive it and sent messages every day to say it had not arrived. They asked eBay to step in to refund just two days past the ETA eBay had specified. I agreed to a refund which was processed and the case closed, I was aiming to chase this up with royal mail as there was not up to date info as to the location of the parcel. A day after the refund I got a message from buyer claiming to have a card from the 'Postie' stating I didn't pay enough postage and buyer has to pay £7 to retrieve parcel. I asked them to upload a photo of the card so I can investigate (sounded fishy) no reply from buyer til today stating they took card to post office and paid £7 and now have the parcel. Where do I go from here as I cannot see anywhere in eBay where I can report this buyer as I feel this was just maybe a scam right from the beginning? Has anyone else experienced this with a buyer as I haven't before (luckily!)

I cannot see a scam here.
Those PO stamps if not stuck on very, very securely, it only takes one corner to lift a little, then catching on the grey rough mail sacks they can be pilled off. I remember years ago when using our main town PO they 'proudly' stated they'd find several stamps stuck to the bottom of their grey bags when returned to them empty after collection. Dubious matter to be proud of, in my humble opinion !🤔
So, the stamp may well have come off , and it is actually a £7 excess to pay to retrieve a parcel, they are correct with that sum of money.
Now that the eBay case has closed with a refund, nothing you can do through eBay all you can do is to ask the buyer to repay you as they have the item, minus of course the excess postage they had to pay, but there's nothing to enforce them to do this.
They can repay via a bank transfer, cheque of PayPal Friends and Family payment or you can send them a PayPal invoice.
If PayPal is used, email addresses need to be exchanged, this can sometimes be found with the order details >> Show Contact Info. If not and you need to ask the seller for this, make it very, very clear in your eBay messages, as eBay do read these, the reason for these exchanges. Make it clear it's not to be used for an off eBay sale.

Thank you for your response, I've never been in this situation before so was unaware this was a royal mail practice 🤦🏻♀️ it was just bothering me how it came to light just after the refund was processed. I'll be aware of this in future. Thanks again.

You're very welcome! Yep it is definitely a Royal Mail practise to charge a recipient of an item almost double
if there is no postage stamp on the outside.
