Buyer bought item for a third party, who said it was damaged

I sold a clock it was delivered and Ebay paid into my account.  Then yesterday I received a message from buyer, it seems he was buying on behalf of a third party and when the third party had opened the parcel found the clock damaged. Ebay also messaged that since it was a Simple Delivery they would be dealing with it. Obviously the buyer had not opened the parcel and was only told of the damage when received by the third party, the buyer also asked me for compensation. It did sell for a great deal of money.

Where do I stand in such muddled circumstances ? . The buyer wrote that he would be going to see the third party on Saturday to take photos of packaging and clock. It was packed in a strong box and well packed. All replies gratefully received, I am very concerned.

Thankyou

Anne

Putting aside the fact that the buyer sent the clock on to a third party, which is probably not relevant, as long as the original buyer opened a case stating that the clock was damaged in transit, and you sent it Simple Delivery, then Ebay will compensate the buyer and you will keep the payment.

You need to do nothing.

In this case, I would simply allow Ebay to deal with it.  If you try to get involved, it will only confuse matters.

If you message the buyer at all, let them know that Ebay will take responsibility for their refund as it was covered by Simple Delivery.
