Buyer Protection Fee change 17th July 2025

Today I spotted Buyer Protection Fee has changed again!
Does eBay notify or warn buyers or sellers of when a change will happen?

Is there a history of previous changes?
From 17 July 2025, the Buyer Protection fee is calculated as:

  • A flat fee of up to £0.10 per item, and
  • 7% of the item price up to £20, and
  • 4% of any portion of the item price from £20 to £300, and
  • 2% of any portion of the item price from £300 to £4,000

Yes, they have an Announcement section and any changes are announced there:

It was also sent out via eBay Messages and email (if you're opted in to receive emails from them).

Re: Buyer Protection Fee change 17th July 2025

Not much of an improvement, only reduces much on very low value items. Doubt the buyers are going to be impressed. Nowhere else do buyers have to pay more for what they would expect in any case.

Even on a £2 item the fee comes to 22p which is over 10% increase. For some reason again, the calculation should be 10p plus 7% 14p which equals 24p.

I certainly had an email in my Ebay inbox.

The BPF has not been changed before since it was introduced so, no, there is not a history of previous changes.

Thanks for the link, but that announcement is dated 17th, the day of the change, which is not much advance notice.
I really don't like it being a surprise that all my prices have changed, even if they have dropped slightly.
