Blocked bidder

I blocked a bidder who I suspected of not paying if they won but they still bid on the item AND won the bid. Why did this happen?

Double check you added them to your blocked buyers list.

Once on there, they should not be able to bid.

If they don't pay, make sure you wait until 4 complete days after the sale them cancel the order using 'buyer did not pay'.

Re: Blocked bidder

Thanks for your prompt response.
I'm certain I have them blocked but what worries me most is they have bids
on everything else I have for sale.
Thanks again.

Re: Blocked bidder

You say you ' suspect' them of not paying, may I politely ask the reason why?  Have they bought from you before ?

Are they a new member with little or no feedback score?  We all started with zero, and eBay spend millions on advertising for new members who do join daily.  Your bidder may have joined to buy those very items, all with a similar subject matter.  Your paintings are very reasonably priced,  they may be after some nice bargains?

Looks like you blocked them After they placed some bids?  Then,  that block wouldn't work on those items.

If you have no concrete proof of this being a non payer,  I would not block them, wait for payment and send only to the name and address eBay provide on the order details.

There is an issue with combining postage with Simple Delivery,  but wise here to send them separately,  as then you have a tracking number for each item.

If they do end up not paying,  open unpaid item cases,  and then you can block them from further purchases.

Re: Blocked bidder

Do check your BBL.

Putting names on there doesn't always 'take' - you have to separate a new name from previous names with a comma and a space  (bloc1, bloc2, bloc3,  etc.)  then click 'Submit' at the end.  Sorry if you know all this and have done it correctly.

If you have evidence that they are a non-payer (from previous experience or their feedback) you can also cancel any winning bids.  Details below.  Choose 'other' as the reason and add a brief reason - for example, 'previous non-payer'.

How to cancel a bid

If you need to cancel a bid:

  1. Go to Cancelling bids placed on your listing - opens in new window or tab.
  2. Enter the item number, the username of the member whose bid you're cancelling, and the reason you're cancelling the bid.
  3. Select Submit.

Or, you can also select Cancel a bid below.

Re: Blocked bidder

Thank you.
I may be wrong about this buyer not going to pay, I hope I am as they seem
interested in all my items. However, I had someone last week with a very
similar name and sale count who did not pay (I cancelled the sale myself)
and did not respond to several, polite, emails. Again, someone with an
uncannily similar user name bid on an item and won then immediately
messaged me to say "cancel sale, don't want it". I then put this item back
up for auction (Beatles boxed cd set) and blocked the buyer. Another buyer
with exactly the same user name apart from one digit bid to exactly the
same amount (£83.97 I think it was) and then refused to pay again.
I may be being paranoid but I just don't want to have to keep reissuing
items and going through the process of blocking idiots like this.
Cheers,
Shaun.

Re: Blocked bidder

Thank you. Actually I have not left a space after the comma so will do that
now.

Re: Blocked bidder

Hope you get this sorted - maybe someone is targeting you for their own unfathomable reasons.

Two points:

You have an idea of how much your paintings sell for.

Rather than using the auction format you could list them as 'buy it now' items with immediate payment required.

If you are creating the paintings to sell, you should be selling them using a business account.  I realise this is possibly not a profitable concern but when you monetise a hobby and start trading by selling things you make, you need a business account.

Re: Blocked bidder

Sorry to hear all your truly bad luck in having those non payers.

End of the day the choice is yours,  you can cancel those bids if you wish,  if there are more than 12 hours to run on the auctions,  link below for this.

There's always a chance of getting a bad buyer, but cancelling in case they might be,  you may be losing some nice sales,  which are very thin on the ground now for all sellers!
