BUYER PROTECTION FEES!

Surprise surprise - I'm far from the only one confused with this new set up for both buyers/sellers!!!!

Ebay need to get their act together or they'll be losing customers!  Ok, if they want to introduce a so called "buyer protection fee", we have to put up with it if we want to use their platform. But, there's no obvious immediate clarity in the total amounts shown re selling/buying, make an offer etc.

I'v sent feedback directly to Ebay about this - let's see if they respond!

BUYER PROTECTION FEES!

This is how Buyer Protection Fees are calculated.

When purchasing from UK-based private sellers, the Buyer Protection fee is calculated as:

  • A flat fee of up to £0.75 per item, and
  • 4% of the item price up to £300, and
  • 2% of any portion of the item price from £300 to £4,000

There is a cap on the total fee amount you'll ever pay. Any portion of the item price over £4,000 will not incur any additional fee. When purchasing multiple quantities within a listing, the flat fee up to £0.75 is only charged once.

It does state the flat fee is 75p  but currently,  it's being charged at 72p.

Concerning offers,  if a buyer sends an offer for example for £10,  and it's accepted,   the seller will receive less, as the Buyer Protection Fee is taken off.

If the seller sends the offer, again for example £10, the buyer will pay more,  as they will pay a Buyer Protection Fee as calculated above,  on top of the £10.

Hope the above helps clarify a little , as we are all learning here too, re these changes ! 🤔
