Hello everybody,
I'm from Italy and I need some help with a purchase I made on eBay from a Japanese seller
Well, a few weeks back I bought a used Lens, supposed to be in mint condition.
I'm talking about a Nikon AF-S 28-70mm f/ 2.8D ED-IF. A highly regarded professional workhorse lens, often referred to as "the tank" due to its robust construction.
After 2 weeks I received it, during a shoting while I was moving the zoom towards the 70mm area it made a strange sound and brooke without apparent reason. Now the lens in NOT usable anymore because the zoom doesn't work anymore.
I believe I need a full refund of the lens because faulty.
I wrote to the Japanese seller, but after asking for some pictures to evaluate the lens, he has not replied after 3 days.
What can I do now?
Thanks in advance.

I think you could have expected the lens to last more than two weeks.
Open a return case. (Advice is based on UK terms and conditions - this is the UK member to member forum)
To request a return, select the item you want to send back from your recent purchases above, or use the button below. You can also start a return request from your Purchases in My eBay.
Start a return - opens in new window or tab

please remember when taking advice here that these are the UK boards you have a UK account, you are in Italy and your seller in Japan.

I was living in the UK and I opened my ebay there. Should I change it to Italy?

What I mean is can move my account from the UK to Italy?

unfortunately eBay won't change the country of registration of an account.

"Hello. After considering the situation as a whole, offering a $20 discount coupon is the best we can do. We hope you will consider it."
This is the reply I have got from them.
I will initiate the return request.
What are the consequences of my being in Italy and him from Japan on the eBay UK platform?

I opened the case because faulty.
Is this wrong?

No, that's fine too.
It gives the seller 3 full days to either refund you , or send a paid tracked label for its return.
If they do neither in that time, you must escalate the case and eBay step in and force the refund. Never close the case early, no matter what excuse or promise the seller may give, and do not forget to escalate.
One more thing if they do send a label, it may not cover the return cost to Japan, if this is the case you'll need to contact Customer Services to provide the correct label, and they'll charge it to the seller's account, well that is how it used to work ! 🤔
