Yup Corgi.  Paisley, great preparation for working at the DHSS in Glasgow - we served Anderston - referred to by Billy Connolly as 'a quaint fishing village on the Clyde'.  What a place in the 70s.

My parents lived with my Granny when I was born.  Quite the norm in those days.  She lived in .............................

*** Ferguslie Park *** shock and awe.  I love being in posh company if someone is being pretentious and telling people that, finishing with - 'It's folk like Fred Goodwin who give FP a bad name' ;\  At this point my husband is sliding under the table with embarrassment  ]:)   Actually when I was a wee girl FP was like the countryside, I have nothing but happy memories of the place, but we are talking 50+ years ago.

Gerry Rafferty called Stealers Wheel's album Ferguslie Park because he couldn't think of a bigger contrast to the music industry - which he loathed.  I love that.

First job whilst at school - newsagent/sweetie shop (the kind where you have to weigh out the sweets and pop them into a paper bag). I really loved that job, but only got paid 50p for the whole weekend, and had to pay full price for anything I ate. So didn't earn much :_| (Only took the job 'cos I had a bad school report and parents stopped my pocket money)!

Then progressed to Saturday job at Boots when I was at college. £4.25 for the day. That was a good move, got staff discount too.

Then worked for a local factory/engineering firm as a typist (owner was a crook) but I have happy memories of those days. £25.00 a week - a fortune.

Civil Service (also DHSS :-D) £35.00 a week. Things were looking up - stayed for a few years.

Moved to Southern Germany for a couple of years, got a job as a secretary for the American Armed Forces. That was really great fun (IYKWIM) 😉  (They liked my English accent)

Returned to Britain, worked for British Aerospace for a couple of years, then got another job with a computer software company - that was good, excellent pay, company car, great benefits.

Then was a Mum (best job of all)!

Worked as a TA at local school whilst littlies were little. Loved that too

Now do the accounts/paperwork for our own business (this is the worst bit, as I've always been really bad at sums)

Have loved most of my jobs, but my absolute dream would have been to work in a zoo. Would still love to spend my days mucking out elephants or somesuch.

Getting too old now to realise my dream job

My first job I got was when I was 14, after one day hearing a girl say at school. how there was a weekend job going at the newsagents and she was going to go down and ask about it.
Well I rushed down there before her and got it instead.  It was first come first served in those days:-p
I also use to clean the local nursery school's floor for £3 :^O

Then I worked for Pitmans for a short while (about a month) as I hated it.

After that I landed a job in a shoe shop, I loved it.  Had a great boss who taught me how to really be productive in retail.  When she left it just wasn't the same.  Still miss that job.

Then I worked at a kennels for the best part of 10 years

When oldest turned 1, I went to work at a clothes shop right up until a month before 2nd was born.

After that, my dad died, and my Mum started to get ill, but I managed to get a job at a pre-sch

That closed down, but luckily I got a job in another playscheme for pre-schoolers, and at the same time worked in a different pre-school as well.

Both those businesses closed too 😐

Then I became self employed for a while, but it didn't work out.

Now I work at a private school, but the hours are low.

I've been a nurse all my life..it's all I ever wanted to do!

Did all the courses I could - psychiatry, sick kids, Health Visitor, obstetrics - & I then did the Intensive Care Course, working in all the IC units, but decided to specialise in Cardio-Thoracic, & stayed there !

I don't work now, due to ill-health, but try & keep up with all the latest in IC care....

I miss my ' other life ' so much.

I didn't work on the life insurance side.  It was mainly car and house insurance I dealt with and working with some members of the Great British public is not easy.  I've been called a B**ch by a 4 year old!!

Shop assistant (think Miss Brahms), Cashier, Dental Nurse (two weeks), Bonus Clerk, made belts for Mulberry, barmaid & waitress, made jumpers & had a small knitwear shop, made Tesco uniforms in a factory, made Juggling Balls for a circus company. A lot of this was part time as I had two children.

Straight from school I worked in a bakers shop and a cafe/confectioners in Scotland, then I worked in a pet shop and my dad's corner off licence. After I got married I had the children but when they went to school I worked two mornings a week in the office of hubby's toy shop, counting and banking money.  After hubby retired and our son took over we just did the payroll at home and I  did some computer work once a week.  Haven't done anything since I was about 50, when hubby retired. 🙂

Left school to do a couple of years as a bank clerk, left to bring up kids, then some part-time jobs in supermarkets and bookmakers. Then qualified as a nursery nurse and spent about 8 or 9 years in nurseries/holiday clubs and then found my true vocation in the health industry where I've been for 5 years nearly, although only at this shop since Nov ( and I'm supposed to be doing my chilled and frozen order at present, better get on with it!!! )

Love the health industry, only thing that could be better is working with animals.
