Hello everyone, I am looking for some advice please
I need to get a washing machine for the first time in about 12/13 years that will last well, have been using Bosch ones which used to be a good make, although I read that they are not so good now that they are made by the same company that makes Zanussi and AEG. I am also aware that in general machines are not made to last in the way they used to.
I would ideally like a Miele but that is not likely, so something more affordable. I do not want a washer dryer, I do not need lots of special features, or a buzzer that goes off at the end of the wash. I just want a reliable, basic machine, a larger capacity would be good (duvets).
So, if you could take a few minutes I would be grateful.
If you have a fairly recently purchased washing machine, are you happy with it?
Which one do you have?
How long have you had it?
Has it needed a repair?
Does it have a large capacity?
Is it basic or super duper?
Did you buy it online or from a store?
Do you have any 'Avoid at all costs' stories?
Thank you for reading and hopefully replying

I've had an AEG . Works really well.
The best place to check is on the Which? web site but you have to be a member to access I think.
I've just had a look and Samsung seem to be "up there" which I was surprised to see. I don't know if you'll be able to see this link. If you can it'll give you a clue on how they perform.

If there's any model you want me to check out, happy to help.

I wouldn't care what make it was ..... as long as it didn't pong like this one does. Both of my machines have ponged and I've no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I've used Merlin's goo, ordinary powder, pouches you name it, but the pong!!!!
and....how do you get rid of the pong eh?
this machine is a Hotpoint, was in when we moved in 2yrs ago. It seems OK
I had an Indesit, it was rubbish. Had a Whirlpool when they were made in UK and it lasted over 15yrs.
I wouldn't know what was the best now, good luck with it!

What temperature do you wash at CB? Low temperature washes allow bacteria to grow inside the washer. They sell antibacterial stuff you can use , or just wash some white cottons at the highest temperature the washer will allow.

Thank you lhasa, the reviews on the Samsung weren't too good, apparently the customer service is appalling when there are problems. Same with Panasonic.
I hope the one we bought isn't on the list of 'Don't buys' although I suppose it could be cancelled.

I haven't had the pongy problem but I don't use a cool wash very often. Mine is done on a minimum of 40, often 60 and regularly a 90 for some items.
I run a 90 on empty once a month.
I use liquid or powder, never gel as I read that it is the most likely to cause a build up of 'stuff' very rarely use fabric conditioner as it contains unpleasant ingredients.
There are other things you can add to the rinse if you want soft laundry.

Captain I run mine through with a liquid we sell in our place Dr, B***mans washing machine cleaner. just put it in your machine and put on a hot wash empty for the full length of time and then after that it shouldn't pong.
