Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Barring the usual kitchen essentials - oven, fridge, freezer, kettle, microwave....which of your extra kitchen gadgets could you NOT live without.

Mine would have to be the slow cooker. This time of year my slow cooker is used 4-5 times per week.

What's the difference between stew and beef casserole with veg?  I thought they were both the same??

I have two knives (both the same) that I use to peel veg with.  I've been looking for replacements for years and just can't find any the same.  They're falling apart and   I can't use any others without having 1/4" peelings. Smiley Sad

They are but don't tell my girls that 🙂

Not going to ask! lol  I am the only person on here that doesn't like her slow cooker. I have had mixed results with it & it fill the house with the smell of cooking food all day.

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Do you mean one of those rubber things that peel garlic, I've been looking at them, or do you mean a garlic crusher?

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Have you tried bashing a garlic clove .....the skin then just falls off......

Jamie Oliver just puts a whole clove in the garlic press and the skin is left behind ( so he says ) .....

Bought a garlic press after seeing him on TV . It lives in the drawer as I still chop it by hand ......

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Veg peeler - a cheap thin plastic swivel-blade one I got from a street market.  I don't get on with the fixed-blade ones at all.  (Anybody remember scraping carrots with a knife? Orange walls.....)

And the microwave.  The last two that went got replaced in under 24 hours - and I realised that the cheap ones last just as long as the brand names, if you really hammer them as I do.

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

My kitchen paring knife - like CB OH threw an identical one out in the rubbish, so I have him check it's in the drawer every night - honest - well, most nights (he washes up).  Also, bought in Italy, a little grater (assume it's really for parmesan) I grate garlic and ginger with it and if I don't use the whole clove, I throw it back into it's (covered) pot.

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Pressure cooker & a cast iron rice pan which OH sorts for me

I guess that includes OH then.  He cooks things which need care - like steaks, fish, rice - time sensitive cuisine!!

I overcook (aka burn) stuff if I can't sling it in the Aga/pressure cooker & let it cook

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

My George Foreman. It's probably used at least 5 days a week. Typically bacon for butties on a saturday lunch, toasted cheese sarnies on a sunday. Steaks, chops & sausages during the week & also mushrooms & halved tomatoes.
Paid well over £100 for an actifry, used it twice & gave it away.

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Kitchen gadget - hmm I'd vote for the local takaways and/or pub.

Lost the potato peeler the other week - OH found it in his workshop a week or so later(I didn't ask) so if he wanted potatoes he got sent along to the chippy.

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Slow cooker for me too, I love the fact you can bung everything in and come home and dinner is ready!

I love when you open the front door and the house smells delicious!

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

You see that is what I hate Shelly. The house smelling of food.

Re: Which kitchen gadget could you NOT live without

Isn't it funny how we are all different.

I think it reminds me of being young and trying to guess what was for dinner from the smell!
