Here on the East Coast (Brid) it's very windy but has stopped raining for now. Seen the disruption down South on the news, and 10,000 homes without power; anyone got snow? If so, please send it this way.

Yes - we are too.
Just looked at the flood warning maps and it must be a really desperate situation for all those in the areas where you see the warnings for the houses being flooded out.
Nothing they can do either - just hope they can get most of their irreplaceable stuff up and out of harms way and then get themselves to safety.

Morning all. Hope that everyone's survived the night intact. It's been blowing a hooley here and we had a heavy rain shower at around 10.30 last night. I am very fortunate in comparison to a lot of people.
It looks lovely where you live Maggie. I can understand why you like it there.

We have had flooding around the harbour but not heard of any major damage. It's not raining, just very windy. The sea looks quite spectacular!

The town nearest us was flooded this morning by the river, main road flooded to the coast, but haven't heard anything else yet as I have just come in from work, Cornwall looks hard hit too. Our shop was very quiet this morning so maybe everyone was staying home today. Not much rain but we did have thunder and lightening, and a couple of big gusts that made the windows wobble.

About 20mins before i left for work this mornings the heavans opened and i mean OPENED. It was like a Tornado. The trees which had been still started blowing and the rain was coming down in buckets!!!!. I was praying for it to stop and luckily it ceased a bit by the time i had to leave. It was quite scary i have never seen rain like it happen so suddenly out of nowhere!!!!.

Well, I awoke to lovely sunny skies after a dull wet night - and thought the forecasters must have got something wrong.
And then it started. BOOOOOM BOOOOOM BOOOOOOOOOOM
Really odd thunder as if it was being bashed out on a metal drum and echoing around and around.
Still, sunny looking from my window towards the east.
And this booming went on, on and off, for about 15 mins, and then it got darker, loads more thunder, bit of rain and it just opened up like a plague of ice balls pounding down - not the normal kind of hail - really heavy and noisy iceballs.
Then the lightening started and more odd thunder - the kind that makes a series of loud cracks through the skies - huge bang overhead that shook the windows and radiators.
It's quietened down now and in a brief lull I nipped out to get some more seeds and nuts for the birdies - they're sitting in a large forsythia and other shrubs and the moment I turned around, the blackbird and the blue **bleep** were on the bird table and the robin and sparrows and other little birds were everywhere on the ground by the time I'd got back in and could watch from the window.
Now it's just relentless rain.

Constant sleet & rain & gales here
I'm 1000ft above sea-level...but my little stream has burst it's banks for the first time ever...& it is flowing with such ferocity, that I'm not letting the dogs out...they'd be swept away in a heartbeat !
The problem is that the water is running off the hills & cascading down to me & my garden...I've never seen the likes before

Hope you won't get it in your house Merc. The sun is out now! Quite bizarre!
03-01-2014 12:45 PM
It's coming in under my front door...but hopefully I've dealt with it.
My living room is right off the hall though, so I' running round like a mad thing, stuffing sheets etc into gaps...oh gord, it's awful !!
Keep safe everyone xxx

Oh heck Merc, I hope it doesn't get in any more.
When we woke up this morning it was blowing a howling gale and rain lashed
against the window.
Half an hour ago I was in the garden, it was warm for the time of year. I was tidying
up after the work we had done before Christmas. The sun was shining and it was
rather nice, my washing drying on the line.
Now the sky is black, the howling gale almost blew my washing away and it's now
absolutely tipping down! Ridiculous isn't it?!

Oh heck - that's not good - have you moved stuff upstairs - just in case?
Please take care and don't rush around too much and risk injuring yourself.
There's only so much you can do to hold it back so best to protect what you can and get it out of harms way.

I don't have upstairs aerne...
I've managed to divert the flow, by digging a trench.
The water flowing down my drive & paths is truly like a river.
I would try for photo, but I can't see anything for water & sleet.
I do feel happier now it's going down the side & not in the house.
Must get back, I'll check in later.

Awwwwwww Merc. I feel heartily sorry for you. I hope that there isn't too much damage.
We've had strong winds but I've known it worse. We've also had a few heavy showers. We havent had any thunderstorms or sleet - yet. At the moment, the sky is clear but it's cold and it is still on the windy side.
Hope that everyone stays safe.
Hugs for all those affected by the bad weather.
03-01-2014 5:02 PM
Oh worse and worse then.
Hopefully you've managed to do enough to divert it away.
Still, perhaps put things that you keep in lower cupboards which would not survive getting wet, up on work surfaces for now?
Has the rain eased off?
03-01-2014 5:11 PM
Hope that Merc's alright and that there isn't too much damage.

People living in Chesil Cove have been told they are to evacuate if the sirens go off tonight.
03-01-2014 6:22 PM
The Telegraphe online has some really scary photos of the size of the waves
03-01-2014 6:24 PM
Someone on FB has said the sirens are going off.

We've had a lovely sunny calm day today. It was our turn last time with this sort of thing just along the coast.
I hope everyone's safe even if damp.
