Here on the East Coast (Brid) it's very windy but has stopped raining for now. Seen the disruption down South on the news, and 10,000 homes without power; anyone got snow? If so, please send it this way.

This one is also of Ilfracombe, which is 12 miles from me,
Wall in the middle, sea to the left, car park to the right, normally when you look over the sea wall it is about 10 feet or so down to the water at high tide,

O blimey Patch you take care.
Merc we hope you will be ok in your cottage and your diversion works, what a worry.
Hope everyone else on here is keeping safe.
We are about a mile from the sea here so quite safe, high tree's are around though and we have had 2 this week break their branches, no damage just clearing up jobs.

Not good news at all, but better at least that they can get out up to higher ground well in time.

The Beeb has a wodge of local vids of some horrendous conditions.
Wales online has some more.
It's not just a bit of flooding on the sea fronts, there are roads being ripped apart as well as flooding and all the stones and boulders thrown up by huge waves, damages to sea walls and defences.
And apparently it's set to go on through the weekend with no let up in sight, so some folk won't be able to go back to their homes for ages yet.
It's going to be a long clearing up process and utter misery for so many.

Looking at more images coming in - found one in the Guardian that beggars belief!
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/jan/03/latest-uk-storm-rain-tidal-surges-flooding-power-cuts
Scroll down and look at that family - then do a googlemap search of the exact location to zoom in and see where they were standing - a the end of the little harbour wall!
With little children - it's just beyond understanding.

Just been watching Sky News and they've said that Portland had been evacuated due to the severe weather. I hope that everyone on here is safe.

It's the cove at the bottom of Portland. Not the whole island.

Had an email from one of my cousins in South Wales. Her mum's in hospital with cancer. My cousin, Sue was saying that one of her brothers, Paul couldn't get to the hospital today due to the weather as the bridge that they have to go over has been closed.

ed, that is where my brother lives, Ilfracombe. He said they had quite bad thunderstorms as well.
He phoned me this evening to see if we were alright in Ardrossan as he had seen Ardrossan on telly and knew we live about 150 metres from where they were filming on the prom.

Sorry Maggie but I was just repeating what Sky News had said. I know that they don't always get these things right. Also, I trust people who live closer to a scene more than I would trust the media.
Hope that everyone is safe.

Morning, hope everyone is alright this morning, Corgi, yes there were some awful thunder claps but it was like a loud rumbling noise quite weird really, trust brother is ok.

Much calmer here today, although still raining.
I have a lake in my garden that wasn't there before

Quick merc ! get the fishing rod out the window, there might be some broon trout in that there loch.
Hope you did not get much water ingress in the house.
04-01-2014 10:58 AM
Hi ed, yeah he is fine because he lives up one of those steep roads so it just runs down the road but he did say it was a torrent at times yesterday.
Hope you are ok.

No more water in the house corgi - phew!
The water has run down from Blackmount & White Hill, so I suspect all that will be in my Loch Paterson is sheep & cow doo doo

Just driven to Portland & although the beach road across the causeway is a little bit flooded it's not too bad. They did close it for two hours last night but that's all. Trouble is it's the only way on & off the island. There was a lot of misinformation flying about last night both in the local papers & on the news. A bit like chinese whispers I guess.
Meant to say glad you had no more water in the house Merc.

Papers say we are in for an Artic blast with freezing temperatures and snow coming soon. Ohhhhhh my!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Has anyone else heard of anything like this???.
04-01-2014 12:37 PM
Yes Rose they said that back in October we were going to have the worst winter for 60 years and it was going to last 90 days, extreme cold and snow. So yes they have said it before, nothing about the worst wet and wind though, could it be they got it wrong or just scaremongering
Who are they anyway?

Corgi thank we are fine, 4 miles from sea and tidal estuary, and we live on a hill.
Bit of a mess around and about though a few breaches in sea walls etc, and the local town square was flooded for a few hours, but not too bad.
Mercs heard you had a new water feature in your garden.
