Weather

Thank you to the weather forecaster who said this area was going to have the best day of the weekend, with sunshine today ! So what have we got? Yet more rain and a load of washing to get dry! It hasn't even got daylight yet. Now, on the other hand if all this rain we are getting was SNOW, just think how lovely and deep and picturesque it would be.........Instead of that we have muddy, soggy fields to walk and slide about in when dog-walking. What weather are the rest of you having?

Makes my fallen tree look trivial compared to what others are going through, but here all we have had is wind and rain, living fairly high up we don't get flooded so it is difficult to comprehend.  I have the utmost sympathy for those who have lost,

At work they are putting collection buckets at the bottom of the checkouts for people to contribute if they want.  They are also collecting food.

I must admit that we've lucky in our road.  I spoke to a friend in town this morning and part of his roof had blown off.  He's lucky in the fact that his son-in-law is a roofer.  I'll find out tomorrow how he went on.

We had bright sunshine this morning and it has clouded over now.  It's still a little bit breezy here at the moment but it's nowhere near as bad as it was yesterday.

Roof problem is worse than I thought; the roofer went onto the roof and lifted EVERY ridge tile up! They have all been loosened by the wnd last night. There's a danger now that they could fall onto the conservatory if there's enough wind. Thankfully he will be here first thing in the morning to fix it. Won't be cheap so will have to put a claim in. Cue another sleepless night for me, listening out!

That's not good Carol. At least you are insured. Just back from a cold, windy but dry walk on the beach. It certainly blew the cobwebs away!

The only two types of weather we haven't had are fog and thunderstorms.  We've had everything else.

Very bad here again tonight. Road to Portland is closed as is the beach road in Weymouth. The harbour is flooding over the walls here & in West Bay. Huge gusts of wind rattling the tiles.

We've got rain and gusts of wind but it's not as bad here as it was on Wednesday thankfully.

Hope that everyone stays safe.

Rain Rain and more bloomin rain, oh and I forgot the wind,  I am so pleased we live in the north of the county, Luckily for us the winds have been southerly or south westerly, so they have blown out a little by the time they get to us, and they are bad enough here.  It makes you cry the damage that has been done.  Once a year my OH has to go to the Somerset levels for work and I usually go with him, as there is a rather lovely shop there that sells basketware, I love it and usually spend a fortune there.  Last night there was a photo of the shop or rather a few feet of the roof, everything else was under water. So sad. As soon as it re opens if it re opens we will go back and buy something to show our support.

Just heard an almighty bang outside and went out, the wind nearly took me off my feet, boy has it got up here,  couldn't find anything must have been next door.  Oh I don't like it, OH has just turned the TV up so we can't hear it. It is hitting the front of our house. Scary.

Just what I was thinking!  You could get hit by a flying tile or something.  There's nothing will get me out there tonight.  That's if I can open the door because the wind is blowing directly on it.  It sounds as if it's all going to blow in any minute!!  The water is beginning to stand on the lawn now.Smiley Sad

If you are on Facebook look at the 'Loving Weymouth & Portland' page. Worst it's been for years!

I'm not on fb but I can see the pictures and comments - seems there are a lot of people stranded.

I've been there, years ago.  Loved watching them prepare the twigs for weaving.

Willows are tough, their stock plants may survive, though they might not produce much this year.

What an awful night, been up most of it, couldn't sleep with the noise, worse it has been. Just took son to work, bit of debris everywhere, signs over, branches on the road but apart from that not too much damage that I could see, but will wait until daylight.

I hope this is the last of it, but I see on the news they are worried now about the snow storm in the states coming here, one channel says it will one says it wont.

They are usually flooded every year, poor things.  They are a very resilient family and always reopen but I hope this won't be their final year as this is the worst it's ever been. Should they not reopen, there's the Coates Willow and Wetlands Centre in Stoke St Gregory, about 2 miles up the road which doesn't usually flood as they are on slightly higher ground although Stoke itself does flood... I live not too far from that area and it's a nightmare for them all this year but they are a tough lot.
