WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

Well my faith in Humanity has hit a new all time low....

Swishy Daughter and her boyfriend had a Halloween party at the weekend in their home...invitation only unless someone had a new 'plus one' but they expected those firends to vouch for them and you don't turn away someones new boyfriend/girlfriend if they arrive at the door as a couple do you?

A great time was had by all and many messages of thanks were sent to them both for the party.....

Until they started getting texts asking if people could call round to pick up phones and ipods that they thought they had left the night before..

Yup...you've guessed it.....nothing to be found, they turned the house upside down.

In total two iphones,Swishy Daughters ipod,a wallet and a pair of gold earrings have gone....one phone traced to a local phone shop but owner denies all knowledge so the police are now involved

Why does rubbish stuff happen to nice people .......Smiley Sad

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

That's awful Smiley Sad Was it a usual youngster's party with at least a million photos taken? Maybe the culprit is in one, or more, and could be traced. Or posted on your local facebook?

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

They are both really upset....the thought that someone they thought of as a friend could do something like this,in their home...it wasn't even an open house party and the two people they didn't invite they knew anyway from College....not as if they were complete, random strangers off the street.

I think this is what's so cruel, not the loss of the items although that's bad enough but the realisation that it could be anyone, who do they accuse first?....so difficult Smiley Sad

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

Yes they made a list but the police don't seem particularly interested...the phones and things have been blocked, credit cards cancelled so the police have told them to keep an eye out on auction sites and local phone shops....Useless really..

They are behind electric gates Towery...no one can get in without them letting them in.

All serial numbers have been noted but there are no good photos of the earrings, they weren't very expensive just of very great value to swishy daughter.....they were the first 'real' thing Rhys gave her Smiley Sad he saved up for a long time for them out of his lawn cutting wages before he got his apprenticeship...

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

That's awful twishy, as you say, not just the loss of your possesions but to think a 'friend' would do that to you!  I guess now she's wondering about everybody!  How many were at the party?  The fewer that were there I would think the better chance of finding out who did it.   I hope they do find out.

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

There were 21 people at the party.....none of them were strangers.....

How do you even start to decide which one could be a thief?....She was in tears on the phone to me this morning Smiley Sad

I just want to punch somebody....

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

swishy, you said one phone traced to a local shop owner?

is he a phone shop/pawn shop type? (meaning will he be looking to sell it on)

or is he a newsagent thinking he bought himself a nice new phone?

if he is the 1st one, he will be required to prove he took precautions to know it wasnt stolen BEFORE he bought it

so he will want to protect himself and co-operate

he wont want the police rummaging either

most shops have cctv too

maybe that might show something?

Awful a nice night like that can end like this

quite a small group of friends

and now they need to deal with thisSmiley Sad

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

Aaawww Twishy, I'm sorry to hear that.

we have a thief at work, lockers broken into etc, that's a bad enough feeling but to think it is one of their friends!!

I think the days of parties are over if you can't trust your own friends eh?

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

It's a phone shop Merlin....but he is know as a dodgy character so I don't think he would have bothered checking...He's the one everybody checks with first when stuff goes missing and he is well known to the police...It was the first place the police suggested they looked.

PCC they are all short of money....all scraping by on student loans, apprenticeships and low paid jobs...it's no excuse for stealing,as Swishy daughter said if they had been so short of money and were desperate then all of them would have tried to help out in some way...

It was their first party Capt.... a joint Halloween and house warming, they were both so excited about it,decorated the house, made their own decorations and fancy dress costumes to save money so they could lay on pizza and nibbles......but you are right,if you can't trust your friends who can you trust? Smiley Sad

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

Can they arrange a get together on neutral ground of all the party goers and talk about it. It might become obvious who the culprit is or they might incriminate themselves. It could even be one of the 'victims'!

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

That's a good idea Maggie....they might even be able to shame the person into owning up. At least they will be able to see who doesn't turn up, maybe suffering from a guilty conscience?.....

All ideas gratefully accepted folks, they have done all the official things but don't hold out much hope....

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

Swishy, that's awful.  Normally, you can trust your friends but what has happened in this instance is terrible.  I agree with what Maggie has suggested.  You never know, it might just work.

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

that is an awful thing to happen, a few years ago I helped someone I knew out with a bed for the night and when they left so did £20 that I had saved up. Try to think that maybe a few drinks had made a "friend" behave in this way, otherwise you begin on the "trust nobody" road. Another get together sounds like a good idea, do let us know what happens.

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THOSE.........

That's horrible Twishy, really horrible.

However I like to think that the type of people who would stoop so low as to steal,

particularly from people who consider them friends, are in the minority and that most

people are kind and honest.  Sadly the few that aren't let us down, make us feel upset

and as if we can trust nobody.

I hope the person or people responsible are caught and brought to justice over

what's happened and that your daughter and her friends get their property back.

I don't wish that on anyone but I do often wonder why these things happen to those

nice people who don't deserve it rather than to scumbags who would do likewise.
