You're right cap'n - I love the oldies too. The last one I took on was a wee blue merle collie, nearly 14, in a terrible state - just had mammary tumours removed for the 2nd time, been spayed because of infection, kennel cough, brain damage & weighed 10.5 kilos. Obviously, I couldn't walk past her, so home she came! The kennel's vet said she probably wouldn't last a week but I said it didn't matter, she'd be in a home rather than a kennel, she'd be loved, warm, well fed & get loads of TLC.
That was nearly 18 months ago & she is having a ball! She doesn't know she's supposed to be terminally ill or that she's now started with kidney failure, dementia & heaven knows what else & even if she did, she wouldn't give a toss anyway!
Taking on such an oldie usually means facing heartbreak sooner rather than later, but for that dog, isn't it worth it to give them the best home they could have for their twilight years?
My Maude who is quite possibly the most UNphotogenic dog I've ever met!
