To Roast or not to Roast that is the question?

Are you having Sunday Roast in the traditional sense either lunchtime or in the evening or do you have something different?

Sunday dinner is just another meal here. I had chicken pie for lunch so probably just a snack this evening.Woman Happy

same here, we've just had egg and chips!!!

mainly because a roast costs such a lot to buy and to cook.

if someone was doing the cooking...ah, well, I'd jump at it then!!

Re: To Roast or not to Roast that is the question?

We always have cheese toasties for lunch on Sundays and bacon and egg and accompanying bits for Sunday tea.  The fact that it's Sunday makes no difference to us, it's just another of the seven.

I did roast a piece of beef this morning actually, and I've just eaten half of it, hot out of the oven!  Bliss!!Woman Very Happy

Re: To Roast or not to Roast that is the question?

When I was at the pub we always had a roast and everybody used to gather there ,sit down to eat and discuss the week.

Nowadays sunday seems to have become a day when all the family pop in and out at different times so I usually have something in the slowcooker or oven that they can help themselves to if they want.

We still do do the sit down with everyone here once a month but for us know our roast can be any night of the week

Only have a roast when there are enough spare pennies - tonight we are having an ox tail.

I got an ox tail recently, hadn't seen one for years but I think it must have been a rat's tail because there was nothing at all on it.  It didn't even make decent stock!  Smiley Surprised   Smiley Sad

I had visions of her creeping around the field in the dark, avoiding the cowpats, with her big butcher's knife in her hand! Smiley Surprised

Re: To Roast or not to Roast that is the question?

we tend to have 2 roasts in a week but not always on a sunday. One roast will normally be a chicken so we can use the leftovers for curry or pie etc for another night & one would probably be a  beef, lamb or stuffed belly of pork joint

Could that be because in place of tails, there's a little bunch of white heather instead? lol.

Re: To Roast or not to Roast that is the question?

We had a beautiful pig once.

I brought my friend round to see it.  She said

'I thought you said it had a pedigree, it's only got three legs!'

I told her,

'When you have a pig as good as that, you don't eat it all at once!!'
