My new job...............

Just to let you lovely ladies know that the first week of work after years off has been exceedingly hard....it is going to take some time to get myself into a routine.....especially at night and getting food on the table. However I have made myself a huge pan of bolognese so that when I do get home I can just heat up a little and cook some spaghetti.....nice and quick.

I have to admit to having a few tears on Tuesday when I thought that I was never going to get the hang of the new work but as each day passes it has got a little easier. Basically I am typing up Surveyors reports - so each time you go into dictation you are listening to a different person - some are easy to listen to and understand and some are much harder...some waffle and shuffle paperwork about and I do have a problem with some accents - broad Scottish being the most difficult for me to understand. I have to type for people all over the British Isles.

I am not going to be on the boards much until I get into a routine but I thought that I would make a quick update just in case anybody was missing me LOL.

Well done to EdBlackadder for taking over the tea thread.

I will be back.....................very soon

Lots of love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxx

My new job...............

yes Maggie, I agree, the first month is always the hardest.

I had trouble at the post office when I worked there trying to understand people who were posting stuff to India Pakistan and Brazil etc. Their accents used to stump me! until I learned the trick of hearing their voice in your head and you pretending to talk like them!! it really worked, and there wasn't an accent I couldn't get in the end.

enjoy Tintin, you'll soon get the hang of it, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I'm pleased for you xxx

My new job...............

Well done - it is always hard at first.

I can remember the days of dictating reports, used to dictate whilst driving up and down the motorway - wouldn't do it now, but no-one thought anything of it years ago. It was when I got a report back when all the punctuation that I had given had been typed in full - "full stop new paragraph".

Well done Tintin.  I understand that your first week was hard but you managed and well done.  You'll soon get into the swing of things and a few more weeks down the line, you'll wonder why you were worrying over it at the beginning.

Well done TinTin and you are doing super. I would be so very very lost. I do find the Scottish accent difficult along with the Indian ones too. Hang in there and it will get easier I am sure. xxx Big hugsxxxxxx

My new job...............

Hi there Tintin it's lovely to read your post,  I bet the job was easier on Friday than on Monday wasn't it.  Stick with it you will soon wonder what all the fuss was about.

As to the meals don't stress about it, just make sure you eat properly not skipping meals, cook some pasta and mix with veg and some dressing and eat it cold, leaving it in the fridge, nice and filling and not heating up involved or perhaps on a Saturday make up some small portion sized cottage pies to cook from frozen.

All the best for next week.

My new job...............

Hi Tintin, good to see it's getting a little easier.  You will get used to it.  Many years ago

I used to be a legal secretary and understanding some of the mumbled wafflings I had

to type was hard - sometimes I'd listen to something so many times and still it made no

sense and I'd have to ask my boss (who was really nice and never minded me asking).

When I first started coach driving I'd only been to South London a couple of times, never

had any reason to go there and the couple of times I did go were on the way to somewhere

else, before the M25 was there.  A couple of weeks into the job I had a trip to somewhere

in South London and I was petrified I'd get lost and ended up following a bus that was

going to the same place!  I don't think the passengers ever noticed!  Now I can't believe I

did that, but we all have to start somewhere and to do that we have to make the first

step forward.

I never mind my colleagues asking me stuff because I remember how I learnt way back

at the beginning - by people helping me.  It won't be long Tintin before it's second nature

to you.  You must think of yourself as amazing 'cos you are!

My new job...............

At weekend or when you have time make lasgna, make twice as much meat sauce as you need and freeze into individual bolognese portions. The next week weekend make a cottage pie and freeze half into individual portions.  When you have time to make stew or casserole(if not enough stick a can of baked beans in) or soup, make double and freeze the second half. Cooking chicken pieces or roast the do wraps with veg, chicken and spicy sauce the next day - daughter does wraps with chicken, stir fry veg and hoisin sauce!!!!!!! Chop cold ham into a can of tomatoes, flavour to taste and serve over pasta - dinner in 15!!  If son doesn't like it then maybe he could do some of the cooking or prep for you. Lay in a couple of ready meals for real emergencies. Just a few quick suggestions.

Pemember if you cook from fresh in slow cooker you can freeze stuff but don't reheat frozen stuff in slow cooker.

Well done on the new job !

Quick cooks tip............for everyone

Need an onion quickly ?,,,,,,,,,chop, put into pyrex jug, cover with clingfilm, cook in microwave about 4 minutes, Fry in oil / butter in pan

DO NOT WASH jug, it has the onion oil in it so make the gravy in it for extra taste.
