....and behold three wise men from the South came unto us bearing gifts to strangle the new nation before birth....

Don't you just love the aroma of politicians' Mental Diarrhoea?

Every time I see Salmonds face on the TV I am reminded of a Lyric from a Dick Gaughan song
"He'll lead us to the Promised Land with laughter in his eye
We'll all live on the oil and the whisky by and by
Free heavy beer! Pie suppers in the sky! -
Will we never have the sense to learn?"

I agree with Rose1311.
How in God's name do they expect to pay for all this freebie claptrap?
They are lining up voters in poorer regions, making sure they are on the electoral list and promising them the sun the moon and the stars.
The thought of life under Salmond makes me feel ill.
I predict a rise in Northumberland house prices if it is a yes vote.

He also managed to persuade Westminster to allow 16 year olds to vote, who've all been brainwashed by "Braveheart"!

That sums it up.
Salmond's answer to everything is "the oil will pay for it".
I think the news today that Asda have warned about increasing prices just might sway some voters (fingers crossed)

On a serious note ( I know odd for me!) probably not. Much like going to Ireland. I always carry my passport but it's not needed.
Oh and if the vote goes for division it will take quite a while for them to work out how they are going to acheive it

Ridiculous! Like a parent trying to bribe their child! Let them go if they want to go!

Please don't blame us, the long-suffering scottish public. We can't help our politicians! Ironiically, if it wasn't for the 'Yes' bunch being led by Salmond, they probably would have walked it but most people can't stand him & regard him as a dangerous influence.
For the most part, I'd say we're all sick to the back teeth of the whole thing & can see it leading to a lot of bad feeling regardless of which way the vote goes.
Two days to go & I still don't know which way to vote. Couldn't vote for Salmond but neither could I vote for Cameron etc plus none of the politicians are capable of answering a direct question & even if they did, wouldn't believe a word they said anyway!

I agree with the bad feeling, with the politicians fighting over Scotland with bribery and wonderful promises, we don't even get a say in it, and all we see is that Scotland will be getting more money and more power. Such a shame that it has come to this, I for one won't be sorry to see it over, it has taken over all of our news bulletins and we don't even have a say. Scots say they don't trust Westminster politicians, and they think we do,
I don't blame the Scottish people, (my uncle is a Scot although not living there) they have been asked the question and they have to choose and to quote the Queen they need to think very carefully about it.

I think Cameron is boxing clever, he can promise what he likes, doesn't mean it's going to happen - he's a politician for goodness sake. He is desperate to save the Union, I am desperate to save the Union. This promise is supported also by Nick Clegg and David Milliband.
I object very strongly to the canvassing in poor districts to get people onto the Electoral Register by the YES campaign. Of course they are going to vote yes, for the free nursery, health, dentistry, prescriptions and university tuition fees that they have been promised.
And what clown decided on the 50/50 split without the proviso for a specific turnout of voters as in previous referendums, unless I have missed something.
In his earlier political career Alex Salmond was a committed left winger and was suspended from his own party for a time for being too left wing. Go figure. I do not believe he has, in essence, changed, and that is why ^^^^^ he will get votes.
The Scottish people are disenchanted with Labour, traditionally the party of choice (and no wonder thanks Mr. Blair, Peace Ambassador, you couldn't make it up) and the Tories are a political desert in Scotland, thanks to Margaret Thatcher (yes, still).
He is also one of the few people of any countries IN THE WORLD who says he will encourage immigration . Oh smashing and where are we going to get all the money for housing and hospitals and health serviceS and roads and sewage and schools. Oh and all the freebies above.
OIL OF COURSE, STOOPID WOMAN -we'll be like Qatar, all sitting by our swimming pools, maybe even getting to host a World Cup. Dream on. (I hope they're left wi' their bums hingin' oot the windae).
Do the Scottish people know that already they have more spent on them per capita from Westminster than the English - did you?

Oh no, no Ed - I would only ever vote for the Union.
I have lived in different parts of the world and am proud to be British. For such a small island nation look at what we contribute to the world, I want to be part of all of that.
Even only speaking about the arts, look at the influence our music has had around the world and our contribution to the world of film and theatre. Same from the Welsh and the Irish, all so close together and yet all so different culturally, I think we're a magic wee nation.
Oh, please mi-uk please vote 'no' - can you imagine how much money it is going to cost us you to put all this change into place if it happens. Salmond isn't a Statesman, he's never held a major Political UK Office, he's an MSP FGS - an MSP for Aberdeenshire East- not exactly the epicentre of the political world - and before that MP for Banff & Buchan. **coff*, been there and, eeerm, whilst very nice, I personally don't think it's great training for running a country.
I love England and I know I am privileged to have visited chunks of it, the Lakes, The Peaks, Yorks & Lancs (& Old Trafford of course), driven right down to Hastings, and Dover and Cambridge and Winchester, I don't know Devon & Cornwall (but will) and there is so much beauty to be seen and then there's London. I adore London and always make a list before I go of what we're going to do, different every time, if you take a sail on the Thames you'll see places that haven't changed since Dicken's time, it's amazing.
So I'll shurrup now, that is my defence for the NO vote.

Oh and Northumberland, how could I forget Northumberland?
