THREE WISE MEN

Can't believe the way feelings are now running so high about all this. Totally & utterly sick of the whole thing. It would be nice to think that once the result is in, that would be the end of it but no, that is only the start.........................

Beam me up, Scotty!

Just my opinion but once the oil runs out, I don't believe Scotland can afford to go it alone, even without all the promises of extra milk & honey by Salmond's bunch - we just haven't got the working population to bring in the revenue needed via taxation.  There would need to be a large population increase in the 16 - 65 age group, who are actually working, to bring in the revenue - fine, but where are these jobs going to come from?

Or, we'd be taxed & taxed & then taxed some more.  Not sure what else they CAN tax - they've pretty much got everything covered already.

At the minute, apparently Scotland pays more into Westminster than it gets back but how long would that continue if we were to go it alone?

Nobody actually knows - so how can we vote on the unknown?

Somebody I have known for years & indeed, classed as a good friend, has been campaigning hard for the 'yes' party - so much so, I wouldn't tell him I am leaning towards a no vote as I'm pretty sure that this friendship would be over. He's said he will emigrate to Australia like his son, if the 'no' party win. I think I'd be tempted to emigrate if Salmond's bunch get in!

I am British, I live in Scotland but was born in England, with english, scots, welsh & even a bit of european blood in the genes so am a bit of a crossbreed! How could I vote yes?

"What this country needs is more unemployed politicians"

Oh, how I wish!

did scotland ever actually want a vote ? or was this something stirred up by the wee man !

scotland might have preferred a vote, just like england might like a vote, on the eu

Well it looks like half the people did and half the people didn't. I think there should have been a higher percentage to win than just the one with the most votes because it looks like just under half the folks will be peed off no matter which way the vote goes. Maybe should have been 70/30 or 80/20 that way the vast majority would be happy.

Do the Scottish people know that already  they have more spent on them per capita from Westminster than the English - did you?

Rainy - yes I did and I am as far from Scotland, almost, as the UK goes.

The Scots are not only net takers from the UK tax revenue they are also currently(thanks to their own Parliament and councils) the highest taxed per head of population in the UK.  So despite paying more in taxes per head they still need subsidising by the English.  In that case can they afford to leave?

PS the Welsh are also net takers and I have no idea about the Irish(N).

Anybody wonder why we aren't voting on whether England wants to leave?

Only (half)joking  - but I would like to see bans on Scottish and Welsh and NI MPs voting on purely English issues.

As to Salmond's promises - pie in the sky is my opinion.

As to the three stooges promises - got to get it through the houses of Common and Lords first and the natives appear to be getting restless and flexing their take over bid muscles.

Simplest outcome for the UK is bye, bye Scotland.  If Scotland stay(after all that has come out during this campaign) I can see the Amateurs from UKIP in power EEEeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

Politics is FUN!

PS I have visited Scotland once.  Had a wonderful weekend in Edinburgh one very cold December.  Good food, good company and great history.

I am in Devon and agree with everything you said. I have a Scottish uncle and have visited many times. But I also think it is time to say bye bye. I think it is just going to cost us too much. I think a lot if English think the same and we dont get a say in it. As you say come the next election I think Cameron and co better look to their laurels because English people are feeling a little left out in all this apart from subsidising everyone elses freebees.

Don't think Call me Dave or the Andrex Puppy are going to last that long. The pretenders are giving soundbites and posturing - unusual so close to an election. Not unless they can persuade Putin into war. Then the 2 daves can form an unelected wartime government of all the "talents" and we will be truly stuffed(and probably glow in the dark)!

Well Ed, it's looking like you may be stuck with us for another 300 years!

bh gardeners - is that you GP?  How are offspring and sproglet and if you want to come to Edinburgh again, you'll have someone nice to stay - here - we're only an hour away and closer to Stirling Castle, my favourite, you'd love it.  It is so spectacularly beautiful.

Well, despite the politicians, we are still a United Kingdom 🙂

Dare we hope they'll all just crawl back under their respective stones again now, then or is that too much to hope for?

Morning mi_uk - how are you?  Did you vote?  You know I voted No.    I would love to know how you voted, but I will of course respect your privacy if you want to keep it that way.

No - no crawling under stones - I reckon Salmond became a liability after the Darling debate and he will be deposed by the lovely Nicola.  Don't you?  Whatever, there's going to be a right old rammy within the SNP ranks.

What a shame he won't get his castle, aaaaw.

Thanks Ed, I meant all I said, I think for this small island nation we contribute so much to the world.  And yes, very, very close in some, oh God don't let there be a late surge or something.

voted no, of course 🙂 Said all along, I couldn't vote for any party with Salmond at the helm, although they're all as bad as each other. wouldn't trust any of them!.

Proud to be BRITISH & hopefully, once all the hoo-hah dies down, we'll get back to normal.

No matter who won, we'll still get all the rain  AND we've still got  the midgies so nothing much changes!

Hi Rainy.  Of course it is me.  Just cannot be bothered logging in and out very often. Everybody fine - just got Sproglet off to sleep - well OH did.  She is 3 next moth - doesn't time fly.  Swimming lessons down the road at 8.30 means I am kidnapping her from playschool every Friday.  Yourself?

Scotland is soo far away, at least it seems that way in a car - never semed so far spending all day on trains with several good books(pre kids). Thank you though - we love our castles.
