Morning all. I too think that's good for a first attempt Merlin.:-) I have two sets of wooden needles. On was my mums. I have shortened one set for doing small things like squares & baby hats.:-)
29-12-2010 9:39 AM
morning:-D
:^OBorzoi, you really are kind
but it had holes & loops
i kinda "smooshed" it up for photogentic purposes:^O
i'm not disheartened at all, and shall keep practising until i get better needles, it did have lots of faults but was better than i expected
if you make a mistake when sewing, its easy to see & work out what you did wrong
not so much with knitting (for me anyways)
i thought i was doing the same thing every stitch, but obviously not, so practise practise
and its nice to have something to do that you can lift & lay without having to make time/clear space/clear away etc

:-(Hippy
duvet day for you|! No arguments!
did you have a nice christmas Maggie?
29-12-2010 9:46 AM
Still having it thanks Merlin. They are here until Friday. They are doing Ham Beads at the moment & Mummy is in the shower. Daddy has gone cycling in the Quantocks!!! 😮
Very foggy here but we might go into town later.
I don't know how to cast on with the thumb method. I use two needles to cast on.
29-12-2010 9:53 AM
:-Dglad you are having a nice time Maggie
thumb method is obviously very basic
the stitches are all lovely and uniform, so its not that, thats causing my loops
but the needles are thick, so i think its that
ooh well, when new ones come, i shall now have 2 more plant props:^O
29-12-2010 10:05 AM
birchwood, or bamboo??
and why do some come in sets of 5?
2 pairs, & a plant stick?
1 pair & 3 plants sticks???

Morning Ladies
Got thrown off the boards last night as my lappy detected a virus and did a big scan 😞
Agree that you knitting looks good for a first attempt Merlin - practice makes perfect 😉
Sorry to hear you aren't well Hippy - dose up on paracetamol to control your temperature and stay inside.
Glad you still have the family there Maggie - enjoy :-x

Merlin - they are for knitting socks.
You only need a pair - not 5 for just squares.
Am dosing up on lemsip @ the moment then off for a shower to see if the steam helps too.
29-12-2010 10:24 AM
They are for knitting in the round Merlin. They have no knobs on.

Morning ladies.:-D Foggy here too. Everyone got kicked off the boards last night for about half an hour.:-(
I've got two grandchildren coming at eleven for a couple of hours. I don't seem to get a day without one or more of them! I hope to get round to making merlin goo today, so perhaps granddaughter will be able to grate the soap for me. Grandson can be kicked out with granddad!]:)
29-12-2010 10:59 AM
Well that got rid of them all!]:)
29-12-2010 11:01 AM
gosh i didnt know there were different needles for different things
thank you:-D
i bought those you showed Maggie
i now have bamboo square blankie knitting sticks on their way!:^O
29-12-2010 11:09 AM
I still haven't decided about cable needles.
Seems its a matter of personal choice, but that doesn't help if you haven't tried any of them.
Just wondering if the bent ones will be easier to keep the stitches on?
29-12-2010 11:17 AM
"kinda "smooshed" it up" :^O
My problems ( holes etc ) were usually to do with getting the tension right, could be so tight could barely get the wool off the needles and then loosened up too much and got holes 😄
29-12-2010 11:36 AM
smooshed is an all round technical term
and it varies in strength
knitting was lightly smooshed
recycling was mega smooshed this morning:^O
there is no end of things that can be smooshed!
29-12-2010 12:45 PM
Good afternoon ladies :-x
Gives Merlin a quick slap 😉 that is good knitting for a first attempt, the holes look natural and from the needles 🙂
Glad to hear your having fun with your family Maggie 🙂
Got back home and we have a burst main suppy pipe on our drive, this is the 3rd time in 4 years, realy peedled off with it, the last time it burst they said theres no need to renew the whole pipe, yeh!
