Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

whats she mad at you for?:|

he is your son, why wouldnt you talk to him?

could he have told her a few home truths and she doesnt like it and striking out at you:-(

Stupid thing is Merlin, I ain't spoken to him since just before she left. And I've only spoken to Emz twice, they are sooo busy. When she left he was fuming and he wanted her BFs number so he could talk to her and I wouldn't give it to him as I knew how cross he was and I didn't want him to make things worse. He is 22 and has his own opinions and has voiced them and because some of the things he said are the same as I have said, she has decided that I have been involved in what S said to her:|

I've told her, she's a big girl now and she's gonna have to deal with the fact that other peoples opinions may differ from hers.

She then said that they should keep their opinions to themselves then:| lets play 'Spot The Grown-Up':|

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

A puzzle for you..

My daughter has just asked me to find a sewing machine she could use..

The problem is.. she  only has the use one hand and not enough use of her legs to safely use a standard foot pedal...

any ideas?

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I can unplug the foot control on my machine and stop it and start it by just pressing a button. I can also vary the speed it sews through slow, medium and fast.  She may be able to use one like it, depends on her degree of disability.  Obviously she wouldn't be able to use one with a handle to turn as she wouldn't be able to control the fabric as it goes under the needle.

Would a sewing machine shop know of anything, or what about the department that provides/advises disabled people with various  appliances?

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

just read this

If you are after a basic sewing machine then I woulf recommend the Toyota EZ901. It can be used with or without the foot peddle, it is easy to thread, adjustable speed control and is very easy to use. I brought one for a student with mobility problems and am currently using it with a Downs syndrome student.

t is one of the easiest machines to thread, no bobin case and is quite versitile. If you look on the Toyota website you can get one for £150 pounds. I plan to use the EZ901 to replace our machines in the future. The machine automatically stops woth the needle up, you don't need to bring the bobbin thread to the surface of the bed of the machine and there is no danger of thread being wrapped around inside the machine. It also comes with an automatic needle threader.

its an old thread, so ignore the price

i read that here

i would seek out a sewing group for people with disablities Chez

things like this she should try them out before buying and there would bound to be recommeded ones

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I think perhaps there are many machines with all those features, mine has, but although they're very easy to use, you still need two hands to do most of them  Perhaps there are places that can advise on which ones would be most suitable in your daughter's case.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

thanks for your thoughts and ideas..

I had a think about the possibilities and thought someone may have seen something that could be useful..I'll look around and if she still wants one in a week or two.. ( tends to have brilliant ideas and then go off of them!) I'll contact the OT and see if they can help.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I used to have an old Elna which was operated by your knee!!   ie., pedal came down on r/h side and you just pushed it slightly to sew.  I only gave it away last year :_| sods law.  I'll have a look see if they're still about.

Mornin:-D

OH was asleep before 8.30 so me and B stayed up and watched 'one born every minute' and cuddled. I was sooo tired, I considered just getting into bed with him when I tucked him in rather than shuffle to the next room:8}
