Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Hope CGs lack of posts mean she's getting on Ok with her knitting 😄

Right, now its my turn to ask for help please 🙂

I know its late now & know no one will be about to reply but I'm going to visit MIL for the day tomorrow so hopefully when I come back tomorrow night someone will have posted & answer :^O

I really  should learn to read through my patterns before I start but I don't, I just check I have the colours I need & dive in :8}  I normally only need wool & stuffing 🙂

Anyway I've started knitting this vampire bat thing for MDCC & find I need some pvc beanbag granules, a circle of muslin  & some chenille stems 😮

I'm sure I can find an old school shirt somewhere that I can cut a circle from instead of muslin, & from what I can tell, Chenille stems are just posh pipe cleaners 😐 ...... but what are & where do I get pvc beanbag granules from 😮 there's none on here if I type it in & I can't think of anywhere local that might sell something like that 😞

Anyone have any suggestions ..... pretty please 😄

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Are the granules just to stuff it with?  Wouldn't the ordinary polysyrene ones do?  I might have some muslin, I could have a rummage tomorrow if you like?:-D

My knitting seems to be ok but I haven't done much because I remembered I had a long email to write.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Right I've just had another read .... No, its just stuffed with normal toy stuffing, I think the pvc granules are to put a bit of weight in it so it will  "sit down"  it just says to make a small beanbag with the muslin & fill with granules & place in the base before sewing up so I could probably leave that out :|, I've never put anything in any other toys I've made.

It says not to use rice etc, as then it wouldn't be washable :^O

I'm still curious as to where I could buy them from though ?:|

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I use rice or pearl barley. Is it likely to be washed? Just put a label on saying not washable & why.:-) Sand would do too.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

ebay??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&clk_rvr_id=265607023052&item=300598156889

i suspect these are them as it says 1kg fills 1 litre (space wise) if these were the polystyreney ones surely a kilo would be MUCH larger volume than a litre, a litre isnt very big at all (one and 3/4 pints ish)

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Evening - everyone busy?

Just finished this for my Grandson's birthday.

Bought some trousers to match, but I'm having a devil of a job finding a shirt to tone in.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Evening Mags.  That's a lovely little whatever those things are called.:^O I suppose a creamy/mushroomy/beige sort of colour would go with the trousers but not the top? I'm no good at colour matching.:-(

What do you know about fisherman's rib??  If you read the previous posts you'll see I was asking advice on it.  I'm doing something that looks right but I'm sure it's not what the YouTube videos say how to do it.:|

Most important thing about Fishermans Rib is that you can't unpick if you make a mistake 😮

I did Neckwarmers in that stitch and it's easy, but you must concentrate.

You are bacically knitting into the stitch below.

I found this useful

It looks like this

I was hoping to find a brown checked shirt to go with the outfit, but can't find one. Every colour but browns.

Thank you for finding some Merlin, I didn't think to put "plastic" in search, I put pvc :8} will probably give it a miss, I only need about a tablespoon full & the rest wouldn't get used, Thank you too Numpty but thats the wrong kind 😐 those reborn dolls are sooooo creepy 😮  & thanks for offer of muslin CG, I'll manage without though 😄

Nice tank top Learning has made, bet it looks soooooooo cute on GS :-x

Has Huggles posted since her flight, I'm waiting to her all about it  😄

CG that knitting looks good 😄 the baby pair I did had a liner knitted in, so were double thickness, does the back/insides of yours, not look the same as the front/outside does then ?:|

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

You could use a little bit of gravel ck.  I used some in some door stops I made.  I gave it a good wash first and if it's tied in a piece of cloth I would have thought it would be safe enough.

The inside (lining) is the ss part at the top of that piece in the picture ^^^, although the foot part isn't lined, which I would have thought would be more important.:|

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I do too, that's why I'm now knitting the third slipper and the second one is still in pieces.:-(

I make a sole in garter stitch, then the upper which is a sort of U shape and then the leg +lining.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

:^O I have bits made up from ages ago, haven't a clue now what some of them are 😐

if your sole is only knit in one thickness, how about knitting two & sewing them together for added thickness, or knit a spare one for when they start to wear out  🙂
