That's the news we all dread Mags, been there with both my parents so can sympathise, make sure surgery is the only option before it goes ahead.. there are other ways.

Mum had surgery, Dad didn't..  both are now well.

No other option as it's in the thyroid so she needs surgery followed by radioactive iodine treatment.

Better than chemo though.

Sorry to read your post Mags, its such a worry when that word comes up.

Both mam & dad has had cancer and both are well.

My friend had thyroid cancer 2 years ago, sorry i dont know the type it was a rare one, she is 50 this yesr so a lot younger, she also had the radioactive iodine treatment, she says the worse thing with that was the fact that she had to be in a room alone for several day with no human contact, (by touch) meals passed through a hole in the wall sort of thing. but glad she had that rather than chemo.

My friend is doing well.

will they be removing both sides at the same time, do you know.

I only ask as my friend had 2 seperate operations, but think they may do both sides with your mum being the age she is.

They are planning to take the left side away at the very least, but may take all, depending on what they find.

We have had the radioactive iodine treatment, side effects and isolation explained. Not great, but definately better than chemo.

Surprisingly, she is being very philosophical about the whole thing.

Its a good thing she's not worried/panicing.

I think when they get older they are more at ease with health problem, what i mean is they dont seem to worry as much in the run up, as us younger ones do, or they just hide it well  😉

when dad had his op he was, oh i'll be alrate, am as fit as abull, now he worries more and openly if he cant work out for his self whats wrong.

so so sorry to hear about your mum

i too know people (mostly through my mum) who have been through various kinds, and at various ages (she has all her old peoples she visits through her church)

and it is amazing what they can do today

the one thing i DO know from what i have seen is, attitude counts for a whole lot, so your mum, bless her, is putting her right foot forward

hard for those around though

We had a cat had the radioactive treatment for thyroid instead of surgery and she did ever so well after it, hope your mum does too 🙂

I've got a question please.:-D

I gave that doll I made to one granddaughter and the other one saw the picture and was disappointed that she didn't get it!  I told her I'd make her something for when she comes again, and I've decided on some bunting with her name on.  Luckily her name has only four letters but I'll add another two on each end. I'll make them double sided.  The question is, what should I use to 'string' them together and how do I sew it on?  Please, pretty please.  Thank you.:-x

Ribbon would be pretty.  Do I make the flags and then just sew it along the backs, or do I leave holes in the flags seams and thread it through?
