I went cold turkey. I don't think I could have done it if I'd had anything like an e cig or patches. It's like If I went on a diet I wouldn't be able to have half my usual amount of chocolate, it would be all or nothing. It would keep my taste buds waiting if I teased them with a little taste now and again.

I went cold turkey too.
Keep busy Merc and break old habits you connect with smoking - like after a meal, leave the table and wash up immediately.
I'm sure you'll do it!

You stick at it merc - it will be worth it in the end.
Oh I am an evil stroppy cow - arrived at the office after lunch, fire exits still blocked. So I said that I was going out to meet a client and went on a trundle up to the fire station. They were very helpful, and pretty bored, so they turned up en-masse - 2 appliances plus the fire chief in his car and did a spot inspection.
I arrived back to find total chaos - the fire chief had immediately issued an enforcement notice - either sort it out immediately or the office is closed until the worst breaches are sorted. The firemen were brilliant and helped to move desks and filing cabinets. The finance staff were furious as they were told in no uncertain terms that they can't have the furniture where they want it, that it has to be where there is free access.
They now have 28 days to make further improvements - things like emergency lighting, improved mechanisms on fire doors, a fire marshall rota, proper recording of fire drills, attention to flooring, attention to the main entrance doors, requirements for staff training.
So it has been a lively afternoon, and we have the firemen coming back in 2 weeks to check on progress, in four weeks to check that everything has been done and further unanounced spot checks after that.

I had a much better day at work today, still had a lot of pain, but not in my back, so that was good and my hooves didn't hurt quite as much. I was hobbling when I'd finished but I can feel it getting a wee bit better. Off on holiday next week would you believe it...bit embarrasing really but we booked that way before we knew I'd be having an op.

We live on the flight path from Liverpool airport to Aintree and the helicopters have already started going to and from the airport. There'll be even more of them tomorrow before and after the Grand National.
