Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Are there no eggs in the blackberry shortcake? It seems very dry.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

it could be because you put some oats in it Maggie. It does look a bit dry before you bake it.

Chris, OH!! what awful news for Steph, and her nan of course, I'm so sorry, and like you say so near to the wedding. Sometimes life just whacks you in the face with the cricket bat doesn't it?

For some daft reason my lower legs are driving me this morning, scared to move them too much in case they set off my foot....cramp coming slowly I guess.....must be the tablets. I've hoovered up though and off now to make a pasta sauce....now, should I make OH another apple crumble??

Should it look like this? It smells lovely. I cant look inside as I have to take it to a shared lunch tomorrow.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Apparently what happened with Steph's nan's second husband was he'd been out for his morning walk.  On the way back, he went to cross the road which was a very busy dual carriageway.  He didn't look to see what traffic was coming and walked into the path of an oncoming car and he was pronounced dead at the scene.  The thing is that he shouldn't have been out on his own as he had dementia.  Obvoiusly, there has to be a post mortem and an inquest which will delay when the funeral will be.  I have asked Steph to let us know when the funeral will be.  Steph and Graham's wedding is going ahead as planned.  At the reception, it had already been decided that we would be on the same table as Steph's nan but we will have to see what happens.  I feel heartily sorry for all parties involved.  It was a lady that was driving the car and she rang for the police who in turn called for the ambulance.  The car driver wasn't injured but she was taken to hospital suffering from shock.  Honestly, it's a terrible thing to happen.  As I've said, so near to Steph's wedding as well.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Oh dear Chris - that's dreadful.

So sorry.

I can't post pics on this thread anymore as it says they are too big, so just trying to see if this will work.

Just finished this for my Mum

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Oooh!  Very nice Mags.  Most of my photos start out too big.  I make them smaller by 20% and then they're ok.

Those other items, kept on once tried.  After three days I grabbed them and hand washed, Aga flat dried, lovely! Smiley Very Happy

How awful Chris, and the poor driver.  It casts a shadow over the happy day doesn't it. I hope Steph doesn't feel bad about going ahead with the wedding, postponing it wouldn't do anybody any good would it, and the old chap wouldn't have wanted her to, of course.Smiley Sad

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

CG, the wedding is still going on but you're right it wouldn't do anyone any good to cancel it.  I'll ring Steph over the weekend to see what's happening.  The road where the accident happened is a link road from the M62 and it goes into town.  The speed limit on that stretch is 60mph and there's no footpath either but just a grass verge.  He must have just decided to cross the road without looking if anything was coming.  I feel so sorry for everyone involved.

Good to hear CG

How do you make your pics smaller?

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I'm not really sure Mags because this windows eight is even more of a mystery to me than windows 7 was!  I know it says 'edit' somewhere and if I click that one of the options is 'resize.  It goes by % so I tried 80%, it worked so I haven't investigated further!  Smiley Happy

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Well that ^^^^^ wasn't what I was trying to do!

Do you mean that you alter the pic size after you have clicked reply CG?

Just tried altering the pic size but it still said it was too big even when I chose small. Can't see anything that gives percentages.

Think it must be the resolution of our camera.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Mags - I use microsoft office picture manager to re-size pictures.

I double click on the picture and it automatically opens in microsoft office picture manager.

There is a "menu" across the top - File  Edit  View  Picture  Tools   Help

I click on Picture and I get a drop down menu

One of the options there is "Resize" - as Maggie says, you can select a percentage, then click on o.k.

You then save the smaller picture with a new name using the "save as" function.

You can play about with the percentage that you need to use until you find settings that work for you.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I get Windows Live Photo Gallery when I double click on a picture. It doesn't seem to give me an option to resize.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Mags - try this (I am assuming that you are using windows 7)

Click on the windows icon (mine is in the bottom left corner) to bring up the start menu.

Click on all programs

Click on default programs

Cick on "associate a file type or protocol with a program"

It should give you a great long list, scroll down it until you find .jpg.

Click on .jpg and it should give you a list of programs that are capable of opening .jpg files.

If you select Microsoft Office Picture Manager, then click on OK

That SHOULD do the trick.

Alternatively, you can look for a "free" photo editing program (I use Gimp) and use a photo editing program to make your pictures smaller. There are lots of free photo editing programs that can be downloaded from the internet.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Glad it worked Mags.  Just bits that I have found by trial and error.

"Him indoors" says that you should also be able to adjust the camera settings, so that your pictures are a slightly lower resolution, so produce a smaller file.

Lovely job on the waistcoat.
