Self service checkouts

Our local supermarkets have all installed the self service machines & there are more of them than 'manned ' checkouts now .

Personally i don't mind them but OH hates them & Ive noticed a lot of other people seem to avoid them too .

Ive overheard someone say they don't like paying the full grocery price & having do the check out themselves , plus what about the jobs that will be lost ...

What do you think about it ?

Re: Self service checkouts

I love 'em. Fly in Sainsburys after work, gran my few bits of shopping, by pass the checkout queues, whizz my shopping through the scanner, throw some coins down the chute & shovel my shopping into my bag. In & out in 5 minutes while others still queue. Brilliant!

Re: Self service checkouts

I avoid them; I prefer to queue up and keep the staff employed. Similarly, I still use the bank the proper way - over the counter in the branch for everything.

That's fine if you have plenty of time.:)

Re: Self service checkouts

Don't mind self service tills if I only have a few items but if I'm doing a big shop its self scan for me ...............love it scan as I go, can see how much I've spent, pack as I go so nothings squished, point me do-dah at the screen, pay and load straight into the car

Can't you get into trouble for that?

Our big Tesco has those scanners.  Whilst I think they are great I am unable to use them because you HAVE to have a clubcard or they won't let you use one and I don't have a clubcard 'cos I rarely use Tesco and when I do it's only for bits and bobs that I know are cheaper or I cannot get in Asda.

Now on line shopping ............................................................. I rather appreciate that one.

Whilst on the supermarket subject does anyone else object to the over loud music in some stores.  We stropped out of Asda last night.  OH said he couldn't stand the loud music(and yes it was very, very loud) - and that was without his hearing aids which he won't wear out because the world is too noisy.

Re: Self service checkouts

I think you mean those things that you scan as you go around shopping and then just pay what the scanner says at the special tills.

To use the self service you don't need a clubcard - our local one has swarms of kids at lunchtime and none of them have a clubcard because they leave a mess of receipts that all say "You'd have earned xxx points with a clubcard" on them.

Re: Self service checkouts

No loud music in our store in fact no music at all, they are too tight to pay the performing rights money. They do have it at Christmas but we only have one cd and after 8 hours it GETS ON YOUR NERVES.

You don't need a clubcard for the self service tills, I think you mean the scan as you shop.
