Work to live, - live to work.

For those of us still working, and those who used to work.

Years ago when I worked in the hotel, I lived to work, it was a wonderful job and I enjoyed every minute.  Now I work to live, well so I have money to pay a few bills and buy what I want without relying on the OH.

I work to live and if I did not need to work I most certainly would not ! Put in more miles on the road than I care to think about.

Bit of both really , now I have to rely on myself to pay bills, I do enjoy my job very much in fact, but because I work full time at it now & I'm SE, apart from a three day contract I have to fill, I can pick & choose the rest of it, I must confess though that I was just as happy being a Shepherd. the only downside at the moment is the long hours & strange times of day& night. But hopefully things will settle down soon!

Tis true! I very often have to strip after a job, err I did forget to mention I then end up having to be hosed down as well & disinfected . lol.

Work to live, - live to work.

Bit of both - mine is the only wage so we do need the money, but I also enjoy the company of my colleagues and at least some of the clients are delightful.

When I am off sick I am bored and can easily sink into depression.

I didn't know that Stroppy, as if you didn't have enough worries.

I actually had a career once, in HR, oil industry and I loved my job, used to enjoy going in in the morning to see what had happened overight.  We used to have call outs in the early hours and have to go knocking on doors looking for errant divers to make sure they made their flights.  It was great fun.

I like (liked) working and now cannot. I had a small business making curtains locally, just word of mouth, and it's not the money I miss (well it'd be nice to have, now I have to ask OH for money, first time in my life I've lost my financial independence), it's the social side, meeting and chatting to people.  Like Stroppy, it is this in part which contributes to my depression.

I do know, however, that I am lucky not to have to work.

I work to live, I don't like it though one bit!

If I did give up work we couldn't afford to live here and I love it here, so that helps to make work bearable. I enjoy the social contact, I must admit I'd miss that. But I enjoy being at home, but, I did get fed up when I was off sick for 3mths!!!!

It's a two edged sword isn't it??

When I lived to work with the pub it was much more about the social contact I had rather than the wages and weird hours

I live to work - now. After about 20 years on a metaphorical treadmill with nothing - nothing - to show at the end of it, I now work part-time and I am precisely eight pounds better off than on the dole. But BOY am I happy. And the job I do is also compatible with rheumatoid arthritis, which is a weight off my mind.
