Might POSSIBLY have won £1,000,000.00 on a scratchcard - yeah, right (roll eyes.)

Wife bought the papers today and along with the junk mail which normally goes straight into the bin was a scratchcard telling you that you have a one in three chance of winning one million pounds and all for the sake of buying a newspaper.  Yeah, right - pigs fly.  To my sheer amazement I rubbed off the scratccard and found I uncovered three little fishy-wishies.  So far, so good.  I am then told to ring a landline telephone number with which to stake my "claim"  It runs for a minimum of six minutes at a cost of £9.18.  You're not told whether you've won, of course, bar the fact that you will have to wait until 31.12.2014 before your number becomes eligible for the draw.  In the mean time every person who buys a newspaper from now until the end of they year will have the same chance as you!  Smiley LOLSmiley LOLSmiley LOL

What people don't realise is just how qucckly it mounts up.  Do it just once a week, and you're talking of a £300.00 phone bill, for absolutely nothing.  The trouble is, it's legal.  Providing somewhere amongst the hypeis the phrase: " Calls will be charged at the rate of __ per minute", there is absolutely nothing to stop people wasting their money.

Once they're hooked, that's it.  A couple of years ago at work I went into Ladbrokes and tried my luck on virtual roulette.  The worst possible thing happened - forty seconds later I walked out with £8.00 excluding my original fiver.  From losing the odd fiver, it went up to £10.00 and then became a regular thing.  I was muscling in with the big boys - people who thought nothing of feeding £300.00 at a shot - the most I ever won was £140.00.  The most I lost at one sitting through chasing my losses was £70.00 - common sense flys out of the window.  Then the best thing ever happened - I retired, and had no more ready money.  Now it's the odd £2.00 for the Euromillions.  They call it the Devil's Game because discarding the 0, if you add up all the digits between 1 - 36 the number on a roulette wheel, the number it totals is 666 - the sign of the beast!Smiley Very Happy
