Menopause - HRT alternatives you can recommend please?

Hi

That dreaded time of lime has hit me at 47  Cat Sad

I've been to the doctors who confirms my symptoms are menopause related (sudden and instantaneous heat rushes from waist upwards / tearful at the slightest thing / no periods etc)

After reading up on HRT and considering my medical past history, this treatment won't be suitable for me.

My doctor said that a herbal route might be worth considering, and briefly mentioned that black cohosh helps some people.

I wondered if any of you could share your experiences with ANY of the herbal alternatives please? (as I know very little about what's out there, and the benefits of such treatments)

Thanks!

p.s

Please do PM me if you don't want to post here publicly Cat Happy

Re: Menopause - HRT alternatives you can recommend please?

Thank you for all the advice offered.Cat Happy

Sorry I haven't been back, as I have just started a new job and my head is all over the place!

I do hope that a certain poster has not made anyone feel uncomfortable about chatting.  That's would be a real shame, and after all this is not the 1950's where (stupidly) such topics were taboo, and ignorance was rife.

The menopause is a natural part of life for women, the same as puberty / childbirth etc, and I do find it shocking that in this day and age anyone could find the topic inappropriate to discuss Cat Surprised

Re: Menopause - HRT alternatives you can recommend please?

Thanks for all the comments about the menopause.  My doctor recommend me to try flavia tablets for about three months, he said that could not put me on HRT because i went through a cancer scare 2 years ago i have a tumour in my right breast, iam luckly i got the all clear after they did a biopsy on me to make sure it was not cancer after i went for a mamogram.

Re: Menopause - HRT alternatives you can recommend please?

Hi Irene, I've just Googled it, found it very interesting especially as it can be used if diabetic. What I can't seem to find out is if it's available in the UK, I was lucky, if that's the right word I went through the Menapause early & sailed through it apart from.an odd flush now & then, on reflection though & listening to some of the things that happened to some here I did have joint pain & certainly memory problems, which used to really upset me, I decided to let it run its course & was one of the lucky ones who sailed through it, my husband was very supportive & I think that was a great help, one of the reasons I think that they should have knowledge of this as well, a cuddle goes a long way when your feeling flustered!. The night sweats are another matter I never really had those, if you look back on the three threads ive bumped there are some good tips for that, I'm really glad your treatment seems to be working for you,
The other thing we discussed was that you need to take care of your skin, nows the time to pamper yourself!. lol Sandra.xxx

have a look at  the    menopause matters     website - it's brilliant.  Heather Currie who does it, is a leading consultant in the menopause as a whole & I was lucky enough to be seen by her as she has a clinic at my local Infirmary - she is brilliant.  Some great advice on the forums too.

Good luck!
