I had a general blood test MOT. Apparently all was fine ..... except for my Cholestrol - which was 7.8
I have a routine appointment with the GP to discuss this.
In the meantime - help!!! I do not fully understand "Cholestrol" - but have looked up Causes, and think that I may need more fruit and veg in my diet (only enjoy a select few). Hence my enquiry about a Nutribullet Blender, as I feel confident I would drink a nice combination drink.
How quickly can I lower this Level? (Providing I can lower it of course).
Will I require medication?
Thank you anyone in anticipation,
Amethyst

I didn't display any symptoms at all, just had to have a full MOT when I moved here and registered with the GP. My blood pressure was a bit low when they checked it, my weight was also on the low side of normal and the nurse doing these checks commented on how good I was, then she did the blood test, and the next day the doctor was on the phone with a "come to the surgery right now" which frightened the life out of me, and it turned out my cholesterol was absolutely sky high.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone else had any symptoms or warnings.

I found out that my cholesterol was high about four years ago and I didn't have any symptoms.

Ed, I think I was under the radar because I hadn't been to the doctors in the previous 20 years or so! It was when I needed a referal for my hip so I had to show up! That wasn't until I was about 64 but friends of a similar age had been going for a few years. The bowel screening (you do that yourself!) starts at about 60 I think.

Never been to a Well Woman check up! I have annual blood tests as I am on Thyroxin but it doesn't cover cholesterol as that needs a fasting blood test & I haven't had one of those.

I tend to avoid the Doctors. They have about as much chance of getting me in for a well-woman check as pigs flying. Must admit to being overdue for the smear but that isn't the same as seeing the Doc. Work on the assumption that I'll be healthier steering clear of the Germs. Feel OK, slowing a bit, creaking a bit - that'll do me.
Ah well i suspect my sins will be catching up with me soon. Need a cataract operation and they will(maybe - since it isn't our actual eye hospital who even try to check when i accompany other family members) be rather likely to check for diabetes, there's no way I am going to escape that for ever(love sugar but HATE sweeteners) and aren't they going to be so pleased when they can explain all my eye problems with "you're diabetic".
As the Mother of 2 children, one with health problems, I am very well known at the surgery - however even when I am on my own they do check it is me that wants to be seen. Mind you they do take me seriously when I do appear.
