When I have a hospital/dental appt etc, I prefer to be called by my christian name rather than "Mrs ....." I think it puts you more at ease especially when you are likely to be nervous to begin with. What do others prefer?

I prefer my christian name, Vicky or Vic and my surname, not bothered if they use Mrs, however when I first meet someone It is nice to be called misses then I will say call me Vicky.
Don't mind love or bab or duck get called most of those names, being a westcountry girl I get called maid a local term of endearment Bab, a black country term of endearment from my sister in law, babe from my shortsighted hubby, love from my mum, yer missus by the postman, mum from my son.
Not really bothered so long as people are polite.

Yes, I think "Duck" is used by South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire people mainly; we Yorkshire folk like to call people "Love." Once had someone refer to me as "Wench!!" That really went down badly.

Or as my husband says, 'call me anything you want but don't call me late for dinner'

What I hate is being referred to as "that wheelchair" - I am a PERSON who just happens to find it easier to use a wheelchair to get about.
I also dislike being referred to as ?????????'s mum or ???????'s wife - I am a PERSON in my own right.
Tore a right strip off a group of 7 doctors (including 3 consultants) yesterday for discussing me and my symptoms amongst themselves and not including me in the conversation. I pointed out rather forcibly that I am the one who has to suffer the consequences of what they decide.

Quite agree Stroppy, you don't stop being a person when you marry and have children. Thats's why I like to be called Vicky rather than Mrs.

Being a Donny lad I can confirm the use of 'duck' or even "m'duck" in them there environs
Personally I prefer a formal address from anyone younger (most of the population it seems...) especially so-called professionals but will accept first-name terms from older folk or acquaintances
Like Hogwarts, you knew you were in trouble at school when teachers addressed you with the Mister... appelation!

The dentist we had for 40 years always called me Mrs. M, now he's retired and the new one is as different from him as it's possible to be, and she called me by my full first name from the start, so I call her by hers. I am usually called by a short form of my first name, but it's also a short form of a more common name, so lots of people haven't a clue what my name is! On here, call me Vamo!
