Hi all, can anyone help with a doggy question please?.

My 13 yr old lab has been very restless last few days , tonight she walked round and round the garden without stopping for ages , until  got her in.

She seems quite well , as well as a 13 year old dog can be.

Still eating , drinking and wanting to go for her walks.

Does she need to see a vet?.

Perhaps the heat is unsettling her Marg. If she seems well in herself I would just keep an eye on her.

Hi Marg, with regards to the restlessness, it could be down to the heat. I know that my dog also 13 cannot settle for long just now. As to the walking around and around he also does that most nights when out as if he is choosing the best place to go Smiley Happy. Just make sure you have left plenty of water for your dog as it must be awful for them wearing a fur coat in this weather and only being able to sweat through their feet and tongue.

In my opinion I would not contact the vet just now.

Re: Hi all, can anyone help with a doggy question please?.

I don't think it's anything acute, so if everything else is as normal, waiting another couple of days won't hurt.   It could be to do with the hot weather, but it sounds more like dementia to me.  I didn't realise animals got it until an old dog of mine started doing things completely out of character, and a bit like a human, not seeming to realise they're doing anything strange.  As long as she's eating, drinking, toileting and sleeping ok, I'd leave her until after the weekend.Smiley Happy

My elderly Labs also restless atm Marg .....  I'm putting it down to the heat & just keeping an eye on her, mines that stupid though you have to tell her to go & get a drink before she thinks to go & get one herself  laughing-smiley-014[1].gif

Thanks everyone , she isn't happy with the heat, I do suspect a bit of dementia creeping in.

I was getting in a panic because my son's dog, who is her brother died a couple of days ago.

She seems a bit better this morning, it's a bit cooler so I think it may have been the heat.

when she comes in you could place a damp towel on her to help to cool her down. It's amazing how quick they can develop sun stroke. Happened to one of our dogs once, luckily I had water and a towel in the car.

Hi ,our Springer is the same.

I keep a damp towel to put over him when he comes inCat Happy.

Also he enjoys ice cubes in his water bowl.

Cats are more tolerant as they all seek cooler places anyway.Which probably proves that cats are more intelligent than dogs!

Hope you're ok ?Dont like the smileys they're weird !
