You were all so kind to me when I had to have my beloved Skye PTS so thought you might like to know that I have another Newfoundland arriving next week. She is 5 years old and isn't technically a rescue as she has been handed back to her original breeder by her owner so is more a re-home than a rescue. Poor Sam has been so sad since Skye passed that I hope a new girl will cheer him up a bit. Can't wait for Wednesday to come

Really glad you love Newfoundlands, Merlin, a lot of people don't know what they are. Have had them for years and can't imaging life without one or two, they really are gentle giants. Would have loved to breed them when I was a bit younger but don't think I would be able to part with any of the pups so resisted that idea. This one that is coming next week hasn't been spayed yet so will have to get her done quickly before I get any silly ideas, fortunately Sam has been castrated because of his health problems so no accidental litters.
Will try to figure out how to post pictures once Anya arrives.

the couple who had them had a landrover type vehicle, and the back window flipped up, i would go and peek in at them and he would open it, and 2 huge heads would pop out, oh myyy they were lovely
when they had the pups they walked to the school with them, one day as i approached the mum (dog) got loose and came bounding towards me, i stopped rooted to the spot, in case she went onto the road,
the man was in a panic,
fortunately she just wanted fuss, so i just sat down with her and let her engulf me
as if i had any choice

Yes, the heat really does get to them, I tiled a huge kitchen floor all by myself a couple of years ago so it would be cool for the dogs and that helps, also the house is old with 2foot thick walls so pretty cool in summer and freezing in winter. During the week I cut a lot of hair from Sam's tummy so that the cool floor can touch his skin - he is not at all impressed at having a haircut!
Having said all that though, there have been nights that I have thought about laying my bare tummy on a tiled floor - would not be a pretty sight!
