Fireworks - again!!

I am well and truly pee'd off with fireworks going off yet again, terrifying my little dogs! This is the 8th night in a row we have had to put up with it and these ones are very near to the house. Wasn't there supposed to be a crackdown on letting fireworks off like this, or is it just another law that has no clout?

Definately not 4x4 owners here, more the unemployed yob youth that hang around at night. Obviously thier getting to much in the way of benefits as they all seem to be able to afford hours worth of them.

That was my view as well, Gina. Let's hope we have no more tonight; it took ages to settle my dogs after the fireworks had finished.

Oh CG, she's so beautiful.

Sorry, it was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment relating to the fact that

there are some people in life who seem to think they can impress by

getting the biggest, noisiest and most annoying fireworks available.

Similarly there are those that think they can impress by getting the

hugest, most gas-guzzling and un-environmentally friendly, ridiculously

over-the-top-for their needs "cars" and drive badly round their town in.

Sorry if it caused offence but there are too many people who don't think

of the wider picture and the effect their decisions have on others and

the world around them.

Re: Fireworks - again!!

Most of them here seem to be firework 'displays' in peoples gardens. Also random events put on by organisations that were postponed because of the bad weather. There will be more tonight no doubt.

The bangs were still being heard round my way last night!!!!!!!!. I cannot see why they have to go on for so long.

Re: Fireworks - again!!

Stopped here at 11pm,

We have a 4x4 which is used for the purpose it was built for, driving down country lanes, country pursuits etc, we also have a small car for in town driving and to and fro from work for me, and we definately don't buy fireworks, more like people buying them for their teenagers in the local town.

Out in our village it just seems to be families, but why 11pm and why in the pouring rain I don't know.

Re: Fireworks - again!!

Here we go again - more blasted fireworks going off! Youngest dog has been nervous all day, jumping at the least little noise. Thing is, she could stay like that now. This really has been the worst year for them.

Re: Fireworks - again!!

I haven't heard any tonight, but Lottie's not here in the kitchen, she'll be holed up somewhere I expect.  It's a good job I put an opened  newspaper on the floor overnight.  She's used it two or three times over the last couple of weeks. Smiley Sad

Do shops sell them off cheaply once bonfire night has passed?  I suppose it would explain why they are going off now, but I've never understood the mentality of those who spend a fortune on them - you may as well shove £££ notes down a drain.

My cats don't mind them too much, but I do feel for all the terrified animals who suffer because of the noise.

Around here, they go off at Xmas and New Year too Man Sad

While I think about the upcoming future fireworks, have any of you tried giving your pets Bach's Rescue Remedy?  A few drops in the water bowl before and after teatime darkness may help.  (One of my cats who I used to show, didn't like car travel, and the stuff worked wonders for calming her without sedation - its a natural herbal remedy too) 🙂

Re: Fireworks - again!!

Yes, definitely New Year.

There is a shop in the local town that sells nothing but fireworks all year round.  I don't know how it survives but it's been there a few years now.

Tried that. Even driped onto her tongue. Make no difference.

Re: Fireworks - again!!

Thought about that but how long can you give them things like that, after all this has been going on for nearly 2 weeks now.

Sorry for the long link!

Have a look there and google for timescales, as there's bound to be the info from other pet owners and vets etc 🙂

Sadly not all animals (or humans) will respond to calming remedies.

As an example, I used to be so terrified of flying that even high dosage diazapam would not calm me.  My doctor said my terror (and adrenaline) rose above the drug making it ineffective.  In your case, your poor mite is just too terrified 😞

Re: Fireworks - again!!

didn't they say in the village that we were going to have fireworks that didn't make loud bangs? HA!!! every firework that went off sounded like cannon fire! I bet the horses in the village must have cacked themselves. They were done by  professional guys, but the bangs did concern me a lot, especially as the bang was echoing around the valleysad smiley.gif
