FRIDAY'S tea thread

As I have just come back from shopping I already know what I am going to have for my tea. Friday always seem to be "lazy" day as regards cooking so mine tonight is a ready made quorn chilli with potato wedges...mind you I may do a little side salad as well. Alex is having ready made roast chicken with stuffing gravy peas and carrots. Both meals courtesy of ASDA.

My best friend took me shopping with him as I am now car less so I made sure that I got several weeks worth of heavy/bulky shopping so that if I do shop on the bike I only need to get smaller lighter items.

Thank goodness the weekend is nearly upon us. Who knows, I may make a meal from scratch tomorrow LOL

Why don't you get your groceries delivered, especially while you have no car.  If you choose the right time and day I don't think it costs much more than the petrol would cost you. Woman Happy

I agree - time it right and you can get a delivery from ASDA for as little as £3 which competes very well with my alternative of a 20+ mile round trip to get to my 'local' store

Friday night is Sausage and Chips night in Chez Allan

I am working later and hubby has gone away so just me and son for tea, so have taken a small cottage pie (homemade) out of the freezer, and will have some carrots and peas with it, so I guess a lazy tea for us too.  I will pick up something for tomorrow night when I go to work later,  as I work for Mr. T.  (I know boo hiss,)  so might get a bargain at the end of the day, possibly looking for some Lamb as son is working tomorrow and he doesn't like lamb so the only time we have it is when he is at work.

we are going to start having all our heavy stuff delivered and just go for fresh stuff as i have seen our home shoppers in our local store and they just grab stuff willy nilly and do not look at the dates.

I have my grocceries delivered every Saturday morning, and pick up top up fresh items during the week, if you do the delivery saver with Tescos it can work out quite cheap, as I work in the store it comes from,  I know the pickers and they are brilliant, they always pick the longest dates and I can honestly say I have never had a problem with fresh food,  they dont know who they are picking for so its not because it is me.

I would also like to say in the pickers defence (in our store) they can only pick the longest date that is available in the shop and anything shortdated is mentioned on the receipt and you have the choice to send it back, usually though if its really short they will subsitute with something else, basically like you would do if you were shopping yourself. Advert over. Have a lovely Tea everyone,

FRIDAY'S tea thread

I have tried having my shopping delivered and it was brilliant as all the heavy stuff was left on the door....however as most of my diet is fruit and veg (a good one third of my weekly shop) I am a little picky in what I pick up off the shelf and always prefer to do the fruit and veg myself. I understand what you are saying about saving money....however if my friend is happy to give me a lift....then I am happy to take the offer. We ended up having to go to Lidl afterwards anyway as my son only likes the Muesli that Lidl sell. As Lidl's is £1.09 and the rest are nearer £2 it is worth going to Lidl cause I buy several boxes at a time. I dont get the fruit and veg at Lidl as although cheap it just does not seem to keep fresh for as long so in the long run is a false economy. Lidl is also best for many household items...I only buy my silver foil, food bags (both sandwich and freezer bags) and many other items like bubble bath at Lidl....fruit and veg and meat I tend to use the supermarkets.

I love Lidls, roasted red peppers in a jar and their museli bars, so stop off on my way home and pick up a few every few weeks or so.

Ed_Blackadder....you are not my next door neighbour are you? She works at Tesco and has her shopping delivered and I have seen her with a Lidl bag because our Lidl is next door to Tesco?

Same as yesterday as our pork loin chops came in a pack of 6 & we only have 2 each per meal, so we cooked them all last night along with a couple of extra roasties & as hubby is out I've just heated up the 2 chops in gravy, the 2 roasties, thrown a couple of Aunt Bessies yorkies in the oven & warmed up the left over carrots in foil, finished off with a tin of butter beans & some mint sauce

We had a very strange tea, things that don't go together really but I didn't enjoy it.  He had a couple of small jackets, (yes, for the first time they kept their coats on because they were out of the boxes where we grew them.  They were horrible and he ended up with all the chewed bits of skin on the edge of his plate!!!  LOL) on top of those he had macaroni cheese and he had 5 fish fingers.  I had the jackets and although I ate the skins that were on what I ate,  I left haf the potatoes.  On top of those I had chilli con carne which seemed much hotter than usual and a cob of corn which was old, tough and starchy.  So all in all, not very nice.  We had trifle for afters though!  Woman LOL
