So it looks like 'our boys' are on the next flight home?
Any chance of them being greeted at the airport by thousands of 'fans' in total silence with a slow handclap?
These 'footballers' are paid more for a days work than I can earn in a year. We deserve better!
Is there anything we are world beaters at?
Need a 'Patriotism Fix'.

Change our National Anthem to "Show me the way to go home...!"

I would say we excell in Rugby, Cycling & Rowing just off the top of my head. I have a low opinion of footballers. To me they are just overpaid pin up boys!

I can't say I've watched a football match in my life, and I'm fed up of the way it takes over the whole of the TV for so long, but having said that, why should we be good at it? We are one of the greatest countries in the world, especially when you compare our size to many. We can't be good at everything! I'd rather be British and have a rubbish football team than be in a country with a great team, no water, no health care and live in a cardboard box!!
To think, our men went to war for people to complain the football team is no good!

I am not complaing that the team is no good. I don't give a hoot but they are paid stupid money for kicking a ball whether they do it well or badly.:(

I find it hard to understand, in general, why there is so much toxicity about "the rich" - but no-one ever mentions the obscene salaries earned by footballers - which would be fine, but they don't seem to be performance related! Apparently, tickets to matches etc are really expensive, and they change their strips every year or something - and there are always letters complaining in the Liverpool Echo when someone gets sold out of the team just after the new kit has come out, and people have bought it for their kids and had the footballer's name put on the back. This is all huge money for ordinary, working people - but no-one seems filled with spite when their team lets them down time and again.
Steven Gerard's weekly salary would buy five houses in my street in Liverpool: I get that professional footballing careers are relatively short-lived, and it gives a lot of people pleasure to watch games (though apparently, more people go to church every week than attend a football match, which is pretty staggering to me) - but how can it be justified to pay these really ludicrous salaries when, by and large, the footballers don't seem able to do their job terribly well anyway?
The teams here do seem to do a lot for charity, and work hard raising awareness of various issues, or money for good causes, which is great: but can anyone, particularly in a deprived region, really be worth hundreds of grand a week in salary terms?

Least said, all been said above, hype them up and then knock them when they inevitably fail.
Go Rugby, cycling, diving, sailing, F1, and anything else we are really good at, Oh yes womens football, cricket and rugby and how much do they get paid.......................

The people who buy these expensive kits and pay the extortionate prices for a ticket to watch a game obviously do.
After all, it's these 'poorer people', 'the man in the street' who pays them these wages. They must think they're worth it.

Weel that's it, they think it's all over, well it is now. They are coming home, what a load of rubbish.
20-06-2014 7:39 PM
"They're coming home, they're coming home,
They're rubbish, England's coming home!"
Unfortunately we still have to suffer wall to wall football for the next 3 weeks or so

I said before it started that England wouldn't even get through the group stage and I was right. They are seriously overpaid and underworked to boot. If they only got paid when they won, they would do better.
20-06-2014 10:07 PM
they think they are beyon reproach. If they were fined more for bad behaviour, or even dropped from the team and only paid if they played, they'd soon change their minds. They play as if it's expected that the other team move over and let them score! they don't have the winning instinct that other countries have.
hope they have a good flight home....they're rubbish.

I agree with Maggie and others on here. Overpaid poor performing celebrity wannabes and utterly underwhelming.

Part of the problem is that we lack good home grown talent. The Premier League winners, Manchester City, for example, had only one player in the entire England squad (the goalkeeper Joe Hart). The rest of their team is composed entirely of foreigners.
I am not au fait enough with the rules, but I do think there should be a rule that says a certain amount of the players in the Premier League teams should be English.
The Liverpool team had, I believe, 6 players representing England.
